2013 Chevrolet Malibu image accidentally released by GM [video]

Teaser video shows spy photographer explaining his trade with a camouflaged next-generation Malibu standing nearby

UPDATE:  Since the writing of this article GM has "accidentally" released an image.

Here is some more teaser material from GM on the upcoming 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

This time it's a video and we get to see a camouflaged Malibu sitting idly by while spy photographer Jim Dunne explains the tactics of his trade.

It seems, though, that Chevy has no problem with spy photographers for this next-generation Malibu and will take all the attention it can get for the new mid-sized model.

Co-opting a spy photographer to appear in your video is a clever move but the Malibu better measure up against the competition, models such as the Nissan Altima and the Toyota Camry, when it comes out.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will be unveiled at the Auto Shanghai motor show next week and at the New York auto show a couple of days later.

The model goes into production in January 2012 with sales starting later that year.

I truly wish GM would put as much effort into the Malibu as they do in their FREAKIN Corvette, Camaro, and CTS. From what the designer said in the video shown on WCF a few weeks back, this thing BETTER live up to everything he spoke about! As of now with the pic they have on here... not cutting it! Screw the Cadillac CTS-V! The midsize sedan segment is the most competitive so if GM needs to think 2020 not 2013, come up with a design that will not get outdated after one year and MAKE IT SPORTY DAMMIT!! 260hp turbo 4cylinder and a 306hp V6 both can get 30mpg that would be great maybe awd I'm just saying. Stop trying to measure up to camry and accord and try to surpass them.

If they make an all-wheel drive option its ok, otherwise complete waste.

Lousy front, yawn!!! The best is the rear, and that is getting old! Camry, Accord, and Sonata can rest as ease, cause quality control is not their strongest since its the same low grade performers in the parts bin suppliers. Chevy had a chance at least in the design department, but old heads still running the roost for design calls, conservative is still in. Shoot, I forgot they can always sell giant incentives!

Looks to be a bit Buick LaCrosse with Malibu evolutionary elements. I'd imagine it will remain a sales success for the bow tie.

Looks great! I like that its a graduation from the current design and not a complete overhaul.
