BMW 5-Series design evolution [video]
Videos show how the BMW F10 5-Series interior and exterior designs came to be while we meet the designers too
Here are a couple of videos showing the evolution of the BMW F10 5-Series design.
In the video posted up top, we get to meet the charming Oliver Heilmer, designer of the interior of the F10 5-Series and a man who also has a fascination for vintage watches - a hobby which may have influenced his work on the 5-Series cabin.
Heilmer also explains the layers of the cabin design and how it is meant to appeal to the common eye.
The second video posted here below explains the F10's sleeker design lines and the balance between heritage and something new.
Enjoy.

Only thing I don't get is why the bottom console area is opening away from the driver, like facing the passenger side for them to use, and away from the driver? Doesn't make sense.

Really like the current 5 and 7 series' interior and how it flow. Hopefully it will also protect the occupants well.

i find the interior of the 5er to be a little too boring and too much like every other bmw's,. including the X5. not very exciting overall.

I think that's because as Heilmer said... this car it's like a business suit... simple, clean lines but not simplistic, the attention to the smallest details, and also at each glance you can see something new, you can feel the quality without even touching... that' why I love these cars...

I spent a week with the new 5 Series driving through Germany, Austria, and Slovenia and I absolutely loved the interior.
I've been driving Merc's only for the last 10 years and the last BMW I owned was the E46 Series...but it still felt somewhat familiar and cozy.
Much better than the current E-class...
Almost made me buy the 5-Series when I got back home...but I came back to my senses and bought another Merc instead...
I must say though...all time best mid size sedan is the E39 5 Series...that is a man in a business suit with the body of an athlete.
