Dodge Durango bursts into flames during parade [video]
Giving new meaning to the Heat edition
Dodge's decision to promote the redesigned Durango at the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington, DC backfired - quite literally.
While the vehicle was towing a float, the engine burst into flames for no apparent reason. In typical fashion, the embarrassing event was quickly caught on tape and diligently uploaded to Youtube for thousands to see.
Thankfully, the fire was quickly extinguished and the parade continued without incident.

there are so many people and so many policemen... isn't anybody able to organice a fire extinguisher? So sad, what we can expect of a dump mass of people...

Therefore, in Poland, each car must be equipped with a fire extinguisher and every year to check its condition and functioning properly. I am surprised that this car was not equipped with a fire extinguisher!

American engineering at it's finest.
(Just thought I'd return the favour from all the generalizing you Americans do regarding foreign manufacturing!).

Well thats no surprise since Chrysler is now owned by the Italians and we all know how Italian cars like to spontaneously combust.

@nforspeed91: I just hope you are joking, really. You can't be serious. Such comment is just stupid.
About the news: this is the worst publicity for Durango ever.

An American car (ESPICALLY a Chrysler) breaking down... how is this news?

I was there at the parade, first the engine became overheated and the driver opened the bonnet to show everyone the steam coming out, then it suddenly bursxt into flames, still no sign of fire brigade or extinguisher. Then finally the fire brigade came, put the fire out, then came the tow truck and as it was making a U-turn away from the parade route, the Dodge fell off.... the parade was halted for 45 minutes, it was so freaking cold.

so next time you buy a Chrysler be sure it is equipped with a fire extinguisher.

Now that is one HOT piece of American technology. I guess dogde is trying to compete with volks in the Carbeque segment.

Idiots just stand and watch it burn... what a waste, even if it is a crummy Dodge

Isnt the First rule of fire in motor compartment that you never open the hood. Because the airfaw from down only makes bigger fire. Kids, never do this on the highway

Oil cap was left off during it's service splashing oil onto the exhaust manifolds. Human error not mechanical/engineering failure. When an Italia bursts into flames it's an engineering fault. I have seen numerous different brands of vehicles get towed into my shop with fire damage due to oil cap's missing. Even transmission dipsticks missing will squirt tranny fluid which is way flammable.

What a piece of sh!t. Isnt this the same SUV from the commercial that allegedly went to some kind of university and got more athletic, lighter, faster, & better in every way? I really hope one of Dodge's rivals use this video in a commercial against them. If this happened on a cold day on a paved road just pulling a float at 2-5mph, just imagine what could happen if you use this 3ton truck to actually tow something in the real world, on a not so perfect road in slightly warmer weather? Will the damn thing explode? This mishap clearly screams "Dont buy a Dodge". 14mpg, $40k, no reliability. I'm all set

s1im, I find it disturbing how one could base his entire opinion of a brand from a viral video he found on the internet. Do you think Charlie is pure evil because he bit his brothers finger - again. Tell me what brand you prefer and I'm sure somebody can locate some sort of media that would put it's reliability into question. Until Chrysler has to recall several million of these trucks to address this issue lets just be in awe of this unfortunate accident.

Maybe I am wrong, but was there no danger of the damn thing exploding altogether if the fire reached the fuel somehow? Would it not be more prudent if police acted and moved people away to a safer distance, instead of bumming around with a broad grin on their face? What about if there was an explosion? In such a case I would expect a large number of injuries, even severe ones, as people are standing a mere few meters from the burning car. It is fortunate that such thing did not happen, but people should take account of all eventualities in such cases, rather than risk injuries.
