Another day, another e-tron concept

Audi's ever-growing lineup of e-tron concepts has another addition as the company has just unveiled an A3 variant.

On the design front, the car is virtually identical to the standard model. Despite this, the A3 e-tron is distinguished by a revised instrument cluster, leather / Alcantara seats, a heated windshield and an optimized air conditioning system.

Motivation is provided by a 26.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which sends power to an electric motor with a peak output of 136 PS (100 kW / 134 hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to this setup, the concept can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11.2 seconds, hit a limited top speed of 145 km/h (90 mph), and travel approximately 140 km (87 miles) on a single charge. When the battery is depleted, it can be recharged in about nine hours with a 230V household outlet or four hours with a 400V rapid charger.

The A1 e-Tron has a rotary engine to re-charge the battery... this A3 doesn't??

Seriously Audi? The performance stats and car possibilities looks like 8 years behind what Chevy Volt can do. Fully electric cars are a dead end route at the moment.

Will they sell it? It's a late addition to the current A3 range so I think it's more of a study for the next gen A3 e-tron. Hope that gets the range extender though.

145 kph is enouth. The only problem I see: Heavy, expensive cars with low range and long charging time. The hard is to found the car completely new. Say goodbye to old structures and proportions. Only to put in complete different drivetrain-technologie in existing petrol cars is not the solution. BMW with the megacityvehicle will go a better way. I only hope they get the carbon handled in massproduction... The A3 e-tron - better then nothing, but only a compromise

233kmh is a typo, the speedo only goes up to 160kmh... Which mean the top speed much actually be 145kph (according to the power/battery it makes more sense too)

Good catch SebXX. The figures got lost in translation. Should be 145 km/h (90 mph).

i wonder if the smaller engine and the battery pack in the trunk will make this car more balanced. if i'm not mistaken, the current 2.0 sportback has a 61:39 front to back ratio--very nose heavy. and audi: perhaps we can forget about the alcantara leather seats and spend the money on lighter body material: aluminum or composite.
