Porsche Carrera GT falls off loading ramp [video]

Video shows the careless treatment of a classic model as someone tries to load a Carrera GT onto a trailer bed with only a few wooden planks

Some people can be pretty careless with priceless objects. And maybe it's because they don't appreciate the value of what's on hand. Or, they don't have a great grasp of the laws of physics.

In this case we suspect the latter.

Here's a video of a Porsche Carrera GT getting loaded onto a trailer bed by means of a few measly, unsecured wooden planks.

Of course, as the Porsche powers up the ramp it pushes the planks back and the Carrera GT falls to the pavement.

Not a smart way to treat a classic piece of machinery worth hundreds of thousands of dollars as the Carrera GT went out of production back in 2006.

Couple of questions come to mind. 1) why would you call a transporter for your Carrera GT that doesn't have the right carrier and using wooden planks. Wooden is the operative word here! 2) If you are the transporter with that sad flatbed and wooden planks, what on earth made you think you were qualified to move something that cost more than your rig? This is what happens when you do things on the cheap I guess.

Er, that could happen with any RWD car (or FWD if he reverses on!). Surely that problem has occurred before? And it's not much of a "fall". I can't imagine any damage being done unless that Porsche is made of rice paper.

FYI, the Carrera GT's frame is carbon fiber, that fall could easily mean broken suspension mounts or cracked frame. Plus the Carrera GT is not your run of the mill 911, this thing is a supercar in the same ranks as your Ferrari or Lamborghini. The right way to transport this thing is with a closed carrier with a hydraulic lift.

Do you hear that crack when it falls? That's the very thick and very expensive carbon fiber under tray cracking. A new Carrera GT under tray from Porsche is around $55k. BTW, this video was taken a long time ago at Paul Miller Porsche when the car was new.

@porschecarreragtmay6 That cracking noise came from wooden planks.

Those planks are basically just used to clear the low hanging chin/spoiler. Once that clears, it should not have too much damage even with that fall. Of course, I still agree the transporter is a little careless, knowing it being a RWD car. Might as well park the rig perpendicular to the curb and extend the flat bed over the curb to avoid the use of wooden planks. Anyway, the transporter better have insurance coverage in case there is actually damages.

From the video, that angle looks pretty steep for just making sure the front spoiler clears. That tow truck operator should have figured another way to clear or angle the bed.

The sales add tomorrow will read something like this: "Porsche Carrera GT low mileage, lovingly taken care of, never been in an accident. Bargain price. Can be transported on trailer to your doorstep"

Proper carriers with hydraulic lifts are very specific transporters, this guy looked like he was being towed- who knows, maybe the cops were towing him for speeding or other infraction.
