New 1.6 liter direct-injection turbo will produce 208 bhp (155 kW / 211 PS) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque.

Hyundai plans to introduce a new engine to the 2012 Veloster line - a 1.6 T-GDI direct-injection twin-scroll turbo with 208 bhp (155 kW / 211 PS) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. Hyundai Blog reports the direct-injection engine, part of the company's Blue Drive project, is optimized to use less fuel at lower RPMs, causing a reduction in emissions.

That output puts the power plant on par with the VW Group's 2.0 liter TFSI unit that goes into the Golf GTI and Scirocco models. In its development, the Veloster was benchmarked against the VW Scirocco.

The engine will also later go into the 2013 Hyundai ix30 and the next-generation Cee'd from sister brand Kia.

Hyundai may unveil the 2012 Veloster's new power plant at the upcoming New York auto show later this month.

Does that means more power for the 2.0 T genesis? Cuz if not they'll be in the same class.

Is this car FWD or RWD? The could get the transmission from the Genesis so it could be rearwheeldrive but I don't know? I'd be very interested if it's RWD!

If Hyundai puts in a decent limited-slip differential and decently sporting suspension into the Veloster with this new engine, it could make people forget about the Honda Civic Si coupe/sedan.

front wheel drive, bad rear suspension, max torque comes in at 5,000rpm....... but great fuel economy as Hyundai said.(close to US40mpg on highway)
