Audi Q3 teased ahead of Shanghai debut

Audi Q3 teased ahead of Shanghai debut
Audi Q3 teaser image - 7.4.2011

Launches later this year

With Auto Shanghai less than two weeks away, Audi has released the first teaser images of the Q3 crossover.

As expected, the model has a clear resemblance to the Q5 and Q7, but adopts a sportier front fascia and a rakish roofline which will likely limit rear passenger headroom and cargo capacity.

Moving on to the interior, the cabin appears to feature a pop-up MMI display, wood trim, and plenty of aluminum accents.

At launch, engine options are slated to include a 2.0-liter TFSI with 170 PS (125 kW / 168 hp) and 211 PS (155 kW / 208 hp) as well as a 2.0-liter TDI that cranks out 170 PS (125 kW / 168 hp). They will be mated to the usual transmission choices and CO2 emissions are expected to range from 158 g/km to 184 g/km.

The Audi Q3 will be officially unveiled on April 19th, so stay tuned for full details.

And it is different from Q5... where? I can usually tell the difference between even most similar cars, but Audi is way too good at making all of their range identical.

And you can honestly say that you can tell the difference between BMW X1,3 & 5?

Well the X5 is a much bigger car, so you can't really compare it with the X1 and X3. As for the smaller 2, the front designs are totally different so anyone can tell which one is which.

Yes, X1 yes :) X3 and X5 are also similar, but i do can tell which one is which. Then again, I am not defending BMW here, they are kind of doing the same thing.

My thought exactly. The word teaser image does not count for Audi. All their cars are the same, all the saloons are similar all their suvs are similar, even all their sports cars are similar. Great cars but because of this I would never consider one.

why? Daimler and BMW are following the same recipe now. it`s a recipe that works. by the way, only amateurs can`t tell the difference between Audi models.

Oh I am far from being an amateur:) Trust me. A little different angle of inner edge of front lights is way to little to call it different car. I know it is smaller, will be cheaper etc etc etc. But honestly, can you, athe glimpse, tell the difference between Q5 and this Q3 from the back ? No, you can not. There is nothing - NOTHING - significant. And does it really work ? Being able to buy an A4 that looks like an A8 takes away a lot of prestige from the bigger car (and gives it to the smaller). You earn money, loose respect, stop earning money. It the way I see it. Perhaps i'm wrong. And yes, since Bangle is gone, BMW is doing exactly the same thing.

This is just a smaller Q5. The sketches look promising, but it is not an original design.

For the most part, Audi has been successful because they have avoided the overwrought flamey, droopy, buttocky design language of BMW and MB (see yesterday's reveal of the MB A class). They have developed their own style that sets them apart from the herd, without being boring or too far out there. For my taste they need to start to differentiate more between models, though. Some family resemblance is good, but a bunch of scale models becomes monotonous. BMW, MB, Aston Martin and others have taken the scale model approach too far. Brand identity is valuable, but so is model identity. Shouldn't good designers be able to accomplish both? The Christmas tree headlight treatment is also close to running its coarse.

Not sure why there's a fuss over design sketches before we see the real thing.

This one is an official "teaser image". That is a lot different that the "renderings from some student in Turkey" that some people go nuts on the board over.

the discussions about audi repetitive designs got more boring than the design itself.... they 'succeeded' by positioning themselves as a cheaper luxury substitute for MB and BMW. audi is good for drivers who want to be low profile or even invisible as its design can't attract any attention at all..

It is interesting to note that the interior sketches have dates of 2007 and 2008....

Still can't be worse than X1 :) At least this Q3 will have build quality of A8 rather than poor Korean X1, lower emission on FWD version than heavy X1, more power and torque than X1 petrol (both 1.8i and 2.8 model), cheaper (hopefully only few grand more than Tiguan) and definitely more space than X1 and GLK. Then, it should be new GLK going to be released by next year

The interior sketch looks like an X3.

This is silly criticism based on a couple of sketches. And you've got to be a complete t-t not to see the size difference in Audi's Q range.
