Toyota FT-86 II Concept action in Gran Turismo 5 trailer [video]

Video shows FT-86 II Concept in CGI-simulated action, likely for a new video game iteration

Here's a video of the FT-86 II Concept put out by Polyphony Digital for the Gran Turismo 5 video game.

Back in 2009 the original FT-86 concept was prominently featured in the PlayStation3 video game. Now it shows the updated FT-86 II in action but, well, it isn't live action.

This video is obviously created by CGI (just check out the fake smoke on those drifts) and the end credits show the Gran Turismo video game logo.

And it feels like video gaming will be the only way one will ever get to drive this car. The FT-86 concept has been around a long time and the lack of details (as in what will be the power plant) and real material beyond the nice pictures of a stand-still model is getting a little tiring.

The rear-wheel drive FT-86 should debut soon, though. Likely, later this year or in early 2012.

But by then its introduction may just be underwhelming.

Since its jaw-dropping unveil at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, the "FT-86" next generation sports coupe has been a highly anticipated model. And in the press briefing of the March 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Toyota has announced the latest updated version of the car called the "FT-86 Concept II".

Following in the footsteps of the original "FT-86 Concept", the Toyota Motor Corporation and Gran Turismo have visualized a driving scene of the newly updated design. Witness for yourself the next generation sports coupe, currently being developed towards its commercial release.

well is taking a long birth...so it will be a awsome car! toyota didn´t simple put a power engine and sophisticated suspension in a hot hatch! they are creating a car that it will be a sport car from the begining to end! i hope they didn´t put a turbo in that and i hope it sound like the videos :)! TOYOTA!

This should go head to head with BMWs M Coupe. Actually, it'll probably lose...explains the long gestation period from both Subaru and Toyota; they're waiting for a quiet time in the market so they can release these two muthas!

I think this cake is slightly overbaked. For a car which took so long to develop...I would be really disappointed if it still runs on gas. When it finally comes out, the technology they put into it would be yesterdays news.

I m sure it will be a great car, as are all Toyotas BUT what's with the design? To me it looks like a basic toon car that came out of a Manga cartoon. Even if I had the money for it I wouldn't consider it.

Roof and middle section are a bit awkward and led infused headlight is actually enough, Toyota doesn't need to add another jaw-LED, it looks cheap and too street car (depend on who is the target customer, but regarding us are normal, then it is too rapper to meet your colleagues). Engine sound is nice and definitely will be interesting if this NA can handle 123d coupe (surprisingly value of money now with sport package), next gen Genesis coupe, RX-8, MX/Miata and entry level C-class coupe, most of them are turbocharged only Mazda isn't yet while Hyunday may place their new 1.6 turbo.

I still think the FT-86 I was better looking. The rear specially. And I don't like those led-daytimerunninglights. Too glittery and bling for my taste. The first consept was better because it was simpler. I hope that it's a boxer engine for the sound. It's the same to me if it's with turbo or not but the main point was originally to make it cheap to buy.

it will be disappointing if it gets 200hp with 20/30mpg while other manufacturers' engines make 200hp with 30/40mpg....
