2012 Subaru Impreza teased for NY debut
2012 Subaru Impreza - 6.4.2011

Will deliver up to 36 mpg

Subaru has released the first picture of the redesigned Impreza, ahead of its debut at the New York Auto Show.

Available in four- and five-door body styles, the new Impreza appears to be a vast improvement over its homely predecessor as it features elegant styling with chrome accents, a kinked rear window and muscular wheel arches. Furthermore, Subaru says the car will have a "roomier interior and improved levels of comfort and refinement."

Power will likely be provided by the new 2.0-liter Boxer engine that develops 148 PS (109kW / 146 hp) and 196 Nm (145 lb-ft) of torque. While that hasn't been confirmed, Subaru said the Impreza will be able to achieve 36 mpg which is the best fuel economy rating of any all-wheel drive vehicle in the United States.

That is a huge improvement over the current impreza. That actually looks quite good. Now lets see the performance version(s)!

Looks like a Mazda-3, last-generation Civic & Corolla all mixed in one! ... Not "Imprezzed"!! :)

Yeah, you're absolutely right. Mazda 3 front end, Civic green house, Corolla rear end (with undersized rear wheels/arches). Subaru can do better, they seem to get the Legacy right, but the Impreza wrong consistently.

You may be right, but I would need to see different views of the car before a final judgement could be made. In the meantime with regards to the side, it looks big for an Impreza sedan.

As you guys say, looks like a tired Corolla. Add budget wheels, crap colour and what appears to be BASE spec and you have something that makes sense to Subaru for a new model teaser. They need to fire themselves and get a design team. Same story for years, great drivetrains let down by useless design decisions.

Nothing horrible OR exciting either. As said earlier, lots of other cars can be seen in this design. A little disappointing because the concept car (as usual) had a much racier and progressive appearance.

An improvement over the current model, but nothing to write home about!

Typically inoffensive design. Subaru need to push their designers to show some class for a change! Not Imprezzed either.

MM, don't know about this. What about the power, a 2.0 without turbo could do better than 148 ps these days.

at least they updated the engine. the 2.5L was old and tired. Hopefully a turbo option will be available
