2012 Nissan Versa coming to NY Auto Show - report
Will likely be based on the Nissan Sunny
Nissan teased the 2012 Versa late last year, but a new report is indicating the redesigned model will be unveiled at New York Auto Show.
While nothing is official, the car is expected to be heavily influenced by the Nissan Sunny which debuted at Auto China 2010. This means we can expect vastly improved styling and a traditional sedan body style.
No word on what will provide power, but the Sunny uses a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 108 hp (81 kW / 110 PS) and 148 Nm (109 lb-ft) of torque.
The New York Auto Show kicks off on April 20th, so stay tuned for details.

Wow... with so many great cars out there from the new Ford Focus and Fiesta, to the Hyundai Elantra... and even the Honda Fit, for that matter... I don't see how this design stands a chance. Totally underwhelming.

yikes....not only do they ruin their entire lineup with CVT transmissions and boring, plasticky styling, but what is Nissan actually trying to prove here? i understand it's "redesigned", but it is just wayyyy far behind anything that is out there today. (ex, elantra, civic, forte, 2012 focus...etc.) sorry nissan, i still don't understand it, and probably never will

the versa is actually a sub compact that goes against cars like accent, fit, fiesta.

...yes, and watching this car makes me think about a redesigned Renault Clio, especially the front end... or maybe it's just me... but anyway good point V-TEC

I don't know--remember, Nissan owns 80% of JATCO, the world's largest manufacturer of CVT automatics, and they might as well put good use to that investment. I do know that the CVT on the higher-end Nissans have a lot less of the "slipping clutch" feel of past CVT's.
As such, the 2012 Versa will likely have these drivetrain options:
Low-end model: five-speed manual and conventional four-speed automatic.
S and SL models: five-speed manual and CVT automatic (CVT revised to have the same "feel" as the CVT's on the higher-end Nissans).
