Scheduled to go on sale next year

New details are starting to emerge about the 2012 Ford Fiesta ST.

Designed to battle the latest crop of hot hatches, the model will feature an aggressive front fascia, a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser. Interior changes will likely be minor, but should include revised trim and Recaro sport seats.

Power will reportedly be provided by a 1.6-liter Ecoboost engine that develops 180 hp (134 kW / 182 PS). It will be paired to a six-speed manual transmission, but we wouldn't be surprised if a six-speed PowerShift automatic was optional (at least on U.S. models).

The Fiesta ST is slated to be launched sometime next year, so stay tuned for additional information.

Next year? Why do they launch the most coveted model in the range when the Fiesta is half way through it's life cycle? By the time they release it I'll bet there'll be leaked photos of the next generation Fiesta being tested. That'll hamper sales. Anyway, I doubt it will beat the next RenaultSport Clio :)

to beat Clio (or DS3) with it's 180 hp? i don't think so. competition of Polo GTI or Abarth Grande Punto rather than the French couple.

the Clio is a 2.0 therefore it shouldn't be in the same category as the smaller engined 207/MINI/DS3 etc it's just not fair....I say lets wait till Clio downsizes before we sing it all these neverending suckup praises, it's definitely a Hot-Hot-Hatch, but I don't think it deserves all that praise ...it's just a Wolf in sheep's clothing and not a sheep like the others ...

Kid_Voltron, the base Clio is in the same market segment as all those cars, plus it's got a 2.0 engine because it's not turbocharged, unlike all the others, so they are comparable. Engine size isn't a deciding factor by any stretch.

@renaultfan, its too early to tell. But among the standard models, I believe the Fiesta is currently one of the best in its class in terms of handling and performance.

Renaultsport Clio should rest easy then! However, this Fiesta ST is a lovely pocket rocket from Ford and should take care of the rest of the pack around the twisty bits!
