Porsche squeezes more power out of the 4.8 liter bi-turbo V8 of the Panamera Turbo for this new range-topping S variant

Porsche has announced the new Panamera S Turbo.

The news comes a little earlier than expected, as we reported yesterday that an unveiling at either the New York or Shanghai auto show was coming. The Panamera S Turbo will likely be presented at both those shows now.

The numbers make this Panamera worthy of a new title - the Turbo S now produces 550 PS (405 kW / 542 hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque with overboost (750 Nm / 553 lb-ft without). The same 4.8 liter bi-turbo V8 produces 500 PS (368 kW / 493 bhp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) on the standard Panamera Turbo model.

The Panamera Turbo S does the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 306 km/h (190 mph).

The power boost was achieved by means of new titanium-aluminum turbines for the bi-turbo system and an optimized engine management.

Porsche has also kept an eye on fuel-economy with the Panamera Turbo S which has a consumption rating of 11.3 liters/100 km when fitted with specially-designed 19-inch rims and low roll-resistance all-season tires from Michelin. Porsche also offers 20-inch wheels on the model.

Standard on the Panamera Turbo S is the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and the Sport Chrono Package Turbo.

The Panamera Turbo S is priced at €167,076 in Germany, including VAT, with deliveries beginning as of June.

if anyone dislike the styling of the panamera, that 'S' behind it wouldn't change his mind. that's too bad for a very accomplished performance.

Porsche just doesn?t give a fuack what to consumer likes or doesn?t like. Year after year they continue to output a great product and just the way they want to. It would be great if American manufacturers would embrace this concept more, rather than focusing on selling shiet to the masses.

I think it's the only 'supersaloon' that could be both an everyday car and a supercar. Yes, M5 is not as good. M5 and E63 are just tuned saloon cars, don't get me wrong, they are great, but they simply can't be as good as a car build from scratch with performance in mind. Chassis, brakes, suspension, weight distribution, power and everything else are just so close to the supercar in this Panamera. I think if you buy a Panamera Turbo S, there is no need to buy a supercar. If someone doesn't know what I am talking about - check out Top Gear US lap time, where standard Turbo was faster than an SLS AMG and a Gallardo Balboni. Amazing for a saloon car, isn't it?

you're right....this Turbo S is a destroyer....there is also a video of dragrace between Panamera Turbo and 2009 GT-R, so this one should be as fast as 2012 GT-R!

well said.

@ Swifty The 2012 GTR does 0-60 in 2.9 secs, so Godzilla is still going to win that race, well at least to a point, until the Panamera's higher HP allows it to edge ahead on top end speed. But as Kimbo said, this Turbo S is an impressive machine. To even be pitted against track monsters like the GTR and Gallardo is testament to its unbelievable capability.

@ droid dtm yes also 2009 GT-R does 3,5 to 60 but still Panamera Turbo managed to post almost the same 1/4-mile times, so somehowe Panamera Turbo S would follow 2012 GT-R! but that's just dragrace, anyway GT-R is a high performance car and Panamera is high performance sedan...different world collided together :D

The ugliness is being sand-papered off gradually and this Panamera Turbo is quite a challenge to any coupaloon out there. Lambo, where is that Estoque?!

The stats of the Panamera are putting up a very good case for Lambo to throw in the Estoque now. They may even share a chasis but hope it will look better than this.

A Porsche 2-Door GT, like the Bentley Continental, would be awesome. With this engine.. a bit sportier design.. would be nice.

cannot agree more with you...a proper GT 2-seater or 2+2 would be a win for Porsche...imagine SL/CL AMG competitor...BMW 6 competitor...AM DBS competitor...and definately Porsche would be the best of them! that woul be a revival of 928!

would slot in pefectly between 911 GTRS and 918.

so what is the point of having the 911. the panamera can sprint 0-100 in 3.8 while the 911 turbo s does it in 3.3 which is 0.5 second. the panamera has better ride quality + luxury + comfot. porsche should increase the HP in 911 up to 600. that will thrash the GTR and make it the Number one sport coup on the face of the earth other wise its pointless to own 911 turbo s.

Those stats are really impressive. However, the rear still hasn't grown on me, and it never will.

I have the same problem. I feel like I wan't to love this car, but that rear keeps pushing me away!

I also do feel the same but I have seen few on the roads and this car has a genuine presence. Of course it vanishes away when you have to see the rear.
