2012 Nissan GT-R cracks its previous record on the N?rburgring [video]

Track time on the N?rburgring-Nordschliefe for the 2012 Nissan GT-R comes in at 7 minutes and 24.22 seconds

Here's a video showing the 2012 Nissan GT-R cracking its old record on the Nürburgring-Nordschliefe track.

Unfortunately, the video is in Japanese but we do get to see all 7 minutes and 24.22 seconds of the GT-R's track run from inside the cabin. That time is still slower Porsche's 911 GT2 RS, which comes in at 7m and 18 seconds according to Porsche.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R comes with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine with an output of 530 hp (395 kW / 537 PS) and 488 lb-ft (661 Nm) of torque. It does the 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds flat. Though, some may need the help of its launch control R-Mode Start Function (LC4 R35) to achieve that.

The 2012 GT-R beats the 2011's track time of 7 minutes 26.7 seconds by almost 2.5 seconds and its sure grip on the track is a testament to its all-wheel drive system. The GT-R's chief designer Kazutoshi Mizuno makes an appearance in the video too. He should be proud of his achievement.

Um what? The gt2 rs did 7:18 not 24. Nice try, they are still a solid 6 seconds behind. http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/05/11/2011-porsche-911-gt2-rs-officially-revealed-laps-nurburgring-in-718/ Confirmed all over the internet.

By the way, just 6 seconds!!! You and I know what needs to be done to a car to make it 6 seconds faster. Nissan has some homework to do!

Oh crap... thanks Bavarian! Yeah, 6 seconds is huge. GT2 RS is quite a bit faster. Someone needs to get WCF to change that...

OK, I am not the biggest fan of how this car looks, but you cannot argue with the astonishing performance. The Porsche GT-2RS is a much more expensive car than the Nissan and people who like this car enough will not see the point in spending the money to opt for a Porsche GT-2RS. The fact of the matter is that Porsche (with the Turbo) gave Nissan the mark to beat. Nissan succeeded. Now it's Porsche's turn to answer back and give even more performance to the people and I have full faith in their ability to deliver.

6 seconds on a normal track is a lifetime but the ring is no normal track! The GT-R is a very fast car, there is no doubt about that. On any given day a race between a Porsche and a GT-R could go any way. A significant factor would be the nut holding the steering wheel.

As much as I don't like the styling and conceptual basis of this car, I am really impressed by what they've accomplished here. For a car of this price to be this fast is quite an accomplishment. And for it to weigh more and have less power than other cars?I really don?t understand how they do it. That being said, I think a weakness of the GT-R may be reliability. A Porsche will do this all day. It?s a result of being raced in motorsport. How many GT-Rs are at track days around the country? For a car this capable why don?t we see more being raced?

It's easy to put down the GTR, but have you driven it, let alone own one? And using the ring as a benchmark? How many of you have actually driven the ring? Sure, Porsche's got more heritage, blah blah blah but this is one great product. GTR's problem could be solved if they borrowed Merc's idea of using an outdated transmission. Try using launch control over and over on any other car and see where your reliability goes. I have no problem including the GTR in my stable, I don't see how this addition is shameful to my other marques.

Its a great car and yes delivers amazing times for your money. Money set aside, the Porsche will always be the better car for lots of different reasons people fail to see here. It doesn't come cheap. I have friends with this car, in the real world the lap times won't matter to you. The car is real fast but kinda on the rough side. Their is more to cars then just performance numbers. Anyone can drive this thing fast, some don't like that.

Well said...I particularly like your last sentence: "I have no problem including the GTR in my stable, I don't see how this addition is shameful to my other marques." Jeezz....I guess you must be one Rich.... Well back to the car...how I wish they would change the front headlights...

A fast car but not for long, we had a 12 hour production/GT1 class race in Australia which the GTR competed in. Reasonably quick but not in the league of the Audi and Porsche products but disadvantaged hugely by having to have a transmission oil change at the 6 hour mark and computer reset. Not an endurance machine.

Force Nissan to build a GT-R that will have the same retail price as a Porsche GT1/GT2. Then we can talk about true comparison.

Honestly folks, we "car guys" need to be a bit more objective. Porsche fans adore the idea that the GT2RS has a time 6 seconds faster than the GT-R. Unfortunately, while 6 seconds is faster, these cars aren't meant to be competitors. The GT2RS is a twice modified (turbo+GT2+RS) version of the GT-R's real competition. The question is, where does the stock Turbo stand in all of this? Rather than hating on a car because it doesn't have a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini badge, realize that a good sports car can come from almost any brand these days. Price aside, this is a huge achievement for any brand, let alone one not known for its super-car history.

Is it the fastest 4-seater round the 'ring? I'd think it was. Nissan can always boast about that.

All in a decade's work. Renault must be envious and that's why the announcement of 'Renaultsport' becoming a stand-alone brand is welcome news to all fans. The Godzilla reigns supreme!!
