Next-generation ML-Class will come with substantial changes to the interior design

Here are the latest spy shots of the upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class.

This time the prototype spotted here comes with less camouflage revealing much of what will be the car's final styling. The design lines are all very clearly intelligible and we even get a snapshot of the inside with its new and larger display, new instrument panel, and newly positioned gear selector on the steering column.

That all spells out a substantial amount of changes for this next-generation ML-Class which makes sense given how last time we saw Mercedes-Benz engineers benchmarking the car against the Porsche Cayenne and the BMW X5.

Expected to power the new ML-Class will be the 3.0 liter V6 diesel, a 3.5 liter gasoline/petrol V6 and a range-topping 5.5 liter V8.

Mercedes-Benz has also hinted at a new hybrid variant and maybe even a plug-in hybrid too.

The next-generation ML-Class will take its first bow sometime later this year.

The rear has gone from masculine...to some kinda american soccer mom wagon. It actually makes the rear of Audis Q7 look pretty decent!

Mercedes has really lost it in the design department. Seriously what the hell is this?! The 164 was such a radical departure from the previous generation but this looks like a step back. WTF are those taillights?! Oh yeah they're gonna add 10 billion LED strips to the front and hope that everyone will appreciate the 'modernness' of the design. And that interior looks outright cheap like something you'd find in an American SUV. Screw you Mercedes for coming out with outright crap, either that or screwing up every beautiful car you've made in the past. I was once a true Mercedes fan but no longer. I love my W164 ML 500 but I will never buy this monstrority.

E-class tail lights. I think it'll end up looking fine, even great once you get used to it. They had to change the design some time. We dont want people bitching like they do at the 911.

The interior looks amazing! I love it, especially since I thought the current M's interior wasn't that great... The exterior is nice and clean and I generally really like this evolution. Now if only Benz flipped those rear lights upside-down...

That rear is awful and looks like it is melting. The interior is nice but I really think the rear is massively disappointing. The current model is immeasurably more attractive.

Since when did Mercedes start sharing interior parts with Hyundai??? I'm a diehard MB fan and the last 6 cars I've bought were MB's...but I just don't like the ML... The only MB utility vehicle is the G-wagen...period...

center console is ugly and looks cheap something you would expect in american or asian cars (don't get offended) especially those vents, and on exteriour i don't like that stupid LEDs everybody uses today, only Audi knows how to make LEDs look good and that is integrating them in headlights, other are just uncreative and ugly, especially when they place them where normally fog lights come,(i.e mercedes e-class, new kia sportage is also example of bad/cheap LEDs design) thats was my 2 cents ;)

The interior looks like a high end Nissan, or an entry level Infiniti. It does not look upscale German to me at all. I do not understand why German cars (even the new Porsche Cayenne) are not making "German" looking cars. Yes, most of us appreciate Japanese and Korean electronics that work very well, but we do not want our German cars looking Asian. Also, I wonder why Mercedes is insisting on keeping that ugly & lame steering mounted gear lever? That just looks so ugly, and like a 1980 Ford LTD. I've had 3 MLs (2 being ML63 AMGs) and they have all been electronic and actually even mechanical headaches. From the looks of this "new" ML...I think I will not buy another ML!! Sad design!
