More power and revised styling

These are the very first spy shots of the hottest Mustang Shelby GT500 ever. According to a recent report, Ford is developing a revised Shelby GT500 to battle the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Citing "well informed" sources, Car and Driver says the 2013 Shelby GT500 will feature a new 5.8-liter V8 which is a bored-out version of the current 5.4-liter V8. Furthermore, the model will be equipped with a TVS supercharger instead of an Eaton blower. Thanks to these changes, the engine could produce up to 620 hp (462 kW / 629 PS) which is 70 hp (52 kW / 71 PS) more than the current model.

On the styling front, the car is expected to feature an updated design that will eschew some of the retro styling details. Nothing is official, but the Mustang will likely have modified bumpers, a revised grille, and LED lighting units.

Despite all the upgrades, the 2013 Shelby GT500 is expected to cost $60,000 which makes it a relative bargain.

Saleen foresaw this probably and that has been the reason for stopping the Saleen Mustang production. Hopefully they will find their future in a new S7.

This is al LOT of factory power. Getting it to hook up may be tricky. I agree this is why Saleen stopped moding Mustangs, Roush may follow suit too.

How many Saleen & Roush Stangs do you see on the road? Aren't Ferraris more rare? Everybody likes to talk about them.. including RUF, AC Schitner, HKS, etc.. but reality is, they all do horrible business. You are better off being a small niche market company, like K&N, and make one thing only. I keep seeing articles on this website about factory modded cars like it is something that everybody must be buying.. but the reality is the furthest from that. They are all going out of business. It is a nice dream business to have.. but that is about it.

Man I love the Shelby GT500 and it is great when i heard 620 HP, but I wanted another weight decrease. But this beats the Camaro ZL1 any day.

I know that we are men (well most of us anyway) and stereotypically we are all about power but honestly is it justifiable? I mean it'll be as thirsty as a truck, highly strung as race car and no faster real world than a cheaper EVO X. The development costs should have been spent on improving the interior and making it lighter.

Devo: Evo can't beat it in a drag race. And let's face it... you speak of "real world" and in the real world, people drag race.. not go fast on the twisties in the back road, like all magazine editors would like you to believe. Especially when you are comparing car to car? 75% of the times it is drag race off the light, and the other 25% are highway pulls. That's the truth.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if occasionally you take it to a twisty circuit or drag race. You don't do that for any important amount of time while owning your vehicle. Most of the time you are just driving through the city or on the hwy, and most of that time is in traffic. I personally don't give a shit about how a car handles, or how it accelerates if the interior and ride comfort are crap. Because that's what i spend most of my time doing, sitting and listening to the radio going from 1st to 2nd gear and once in a while into 3rd. Most buyers go for a whole package, comfort and performance. This is why cars like the M3 are untouchable in sales even by cars with 200hp more, and as cronan pointed out at the end of the day the mustang is a shopping cart with 620hp. Congrats on a nice engine ford, but what about the rest of the car? The GT500 still does not feel like a 60k car when you sit in it, maybe a 14-15k hatchback, is the engine and it's performance figures worth another 45k? I don't think so. I look at this car and i see the first brick Motorola cellphone trying to make it in the new I-World. We need more technological firsts and touchable materials and a decent sounding audio systems that doesnt rattle the whole car. This car is like a beautiful woman with sandpaper skin, a voice like Shrek, and bruises on touch...Looks nice from a distance, but on closer inspection.....Thanks but for 60k i'll buy a 1997 993 Turbo.
