2012 Porsche 911 spied in action [video]

Next-generation Porsche 911 is set to debut at the Frankfurt motor show this year

Here's a spy video of the next-generation 2012 Porsche 911.

We've already seen a lot of this upcoming new 911 (998 generation) but the closer we look the more those details we know of make their presence know.

The next 911 will change substantially in its dimensions. It will be longer by 56 mm over the current 997, with a total length of 4.49 meters. The wheelbase has also been stretched by 10 mm and it is shorter by 11 mm, shifting it slightly more towards a supercar shape rather than a mere sports model.

The width will remain the same, although, the next Carrera edition will have a wider rear body by 60 mm.

The rear axle for the next 911 has been completely reworked, engines too have been revised and the car will weight about 20 kg less than its predecessor.

The base model 911 gets a 3.4 liter Boxer engine with an output of 350 PS (257 kW / 345 bhp). The 0 to 100 km/h sprint time will take 4.8 seconds and the car will have a top speed of 289 km/h (180 mph).

The Carrera S gets a revised 3.8 liter with 400 PS (294 kW / 395 bhp) and 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds. Top speed will be 302 km/h (188 mph).

The 2012 Porsche 911 is set to debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The 911 is a civilized car. So I always a bit amazed of the good sound.

They continue to get bigger and fatter, how disappointing. I agree with Gturbo, that Singer is what a Porsche 911 should be. This will be a brilliant car no doubt but i find it sad that the 911 is no longer the compact, light-weight sports car that it once was.

The California-based company called Singer did a remake of the classic 2.7 RS finished in trademark frog-green. As light as cotton wool with 400bhp! These 911s are just getting fatter as BMWs are nowadays. However, I reserve my judgement until its tested by well-sussed auto journalists. Much wider and beefier than 997. Muted sound rather than 993 heart-throbbing.

Cars are getting fatter because they have to pass tougher and tougher crash tests so when you wreck it you wont die a horrible, violent, bloody death...

Lovely intakes. For what car those belongs is not clear yet though. Uncamouflaged looks that Porsche like an i-Pad taken out from black box - a morphological shock of void.

That test driver is an asshole. If there is one car which does not require camouflage it is the Porsche 911. I have never liked Porsche as a company as it is extremely arrogant and has a massive superiority complex much like Apple. If I had the money in the future I would never purchase a Porsche as a result. Having said that this 998 911 looks more muscular than the 997 and more appealing but still a 911 V1.02.

"Do you speak english....do you have children sir...it vud be a shame...if....one of them were to have a little....accident...no?" Anyway, the car is getting fatter. The next Cayman will probably be 911 sized.

What an arrogant folks there at Porsche. Can't believe they have such a shitty attitude, if they don't want to show their car then just keep it in the garage

Methinks you can't test a car by keeping it in the garage.

it's really boring. perhaps a little threat or even a fight from the porsche test driver would be more interesting.

I'm not a 911 fan, but something about this version looks a lot better than those in the past

it's lower, wider, longer and the new rear end promises to be good looking, it's a major step away from its normal evolution.
