Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 in the works - report
Could debut on April 7th
The redesigned Porsche 911 is set to be unveiled later this year, but that hasn't stopped the company from launching an assortment of special editions for the current model.
If recent reports are correct, the ever expanding lineup will gain another variant dubbed the 911 GT3 RS Limited Edition. The specifics are still kind of murky, but the car will reportedly feature a new 4.0-liter flat-six engine with 500 PS (368 kW / 493 hp) which is 50 PS (37 kW / 49 hp) more than the standard model. Furthermore, the vehicle could be outfitted with the new PDK-S transmission which promises near instantaneous gear shifts.
The GT3 RS LE will reportedly be unveiled on April 7th, so stay tuned for more information.

I can't wait for this car!
Hey, WCF: I made a rendering of this particular car a while ago, and if you guys want to update the article with the rendering, feel free too. Here are a few in different colors (as a tribute to the original RS 2.7).

There is Porsche than there are a bunch of show pony pretenders.
March 14, 2011 5:25 pm
yes! yes! ohh yes!!! this will show all those pretenders with mega horsepower but zero chassis finesse.. what a real 'driver's car' is..!!

it makes sense that they would come out with a GT3 that can compete toe-to-toe with the GTR.

Actually, I think the Turbo S is meant to do that. It has the same 530PS as the updated GT-R, as well as having paddles instead of buttons for the gearbox. I guess this could tackle the lighter V-Spec version though.

I don't think that is Porsche's intention. The GT-3 is a very different type of car than either the GTR or the Turbo S. This is a normally aspirated, RWD car. It is meant to be pure, except for Porsche relenting and putting in the PDK transmission. It is pretty incredible that Porsche is producing a normally aspirated version of their flat 6 that puts out almost as much as the Turbo version and the GTR.

Just as with the GT2 RS, this car will have no intended competitors. This car will just be an example of Porsche trying to make the BEST possible GT3 they can legally make without worrying about competitors, the price, where it will fit in the market, etc.

And a big thank you to Cayenne and Panamera (not to mention, VW) for giving Porsche the capital to develop such awesome 911s!

thats crazy. only 200ccm more displacement means 50PS more power!! thats incredible. i thout 450PS out of 3.8liters were the end of the line

apparently it's a street legal version of the RSR engine, but without the air restrictors.

It's not that amazing when you think that Honda made almost same amount of power per litre in S2000 about 10 years ago. S2000: 240hp / 2,0l = 120hp vs. GT3 RS 4.0: 500hp / 4,0l = 125hp. And Honda was a much cheaper car.
March 15, 2011 3:04 pm
to be fair, the gt3 engine is even older than the s2000 eninge. it has just been updated and increased in ccm ever since. and although the gt3 4.0 has twice as much displacement, it doesnt have twice as many cylinders :)
