Toyota gets sporty

Citing a "very reliable source," Autoblog is reporting the 2012 Lexus GS and Scion FT-86 concept will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April.

First up, the redesigned Lexus GS will feature sportier styling and an all-new platform that will reportedly be shared with the next-generation IS. Additional information is scarce, but engine options are expected to carryover with minor modifications for improved efficiency and added performance.

On the other hand, the Scion FT-86 is expected to be a rebadged version of the Toyota FT-86 II concept which recently debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. This means we can expect power to be provided by a Subaru-sourced 2.0-liter Boxer engine that develops approximately 200 hp (149 kW /203 PS).

"an all-new platform that will reportedly be shared with the next-generation IS." How can the IS and GS share the same platform? the only reason the IS exists is that its smaller in size and rivals the BMW 3-series and the merc C-class

I can't believe Toyota is bringing the FT in at a $25K price point. With the Mustang in the same category, with more power, better fuel economy, for less money. Seems like a loser in the market before it starts. It sure is a looker though!!

rxlonline: How is the Mustang V6 and the FT not in the same category? Compact-Sub Compact Sport Coupes. RWD 2+2. I don't know what you are trying to say but I was comparing price of a Mustang V6 Performance pack MSRP to the listed price here. Mustang v6 track pack is $24,990. Article listed $25K for the FT. Oh yeah and the stang gets a proven 31+ mpg. I just think the Toyaru is coming in too high to be a real impact in the market given the competition. Subaota needs a winner for Scion in the states and I think they missed it with the pricing here. Still a gorgeous car though.
