Will ride on the new rear-wheel drive Alpha platform

Our spies have managed to snap the first pictures of the 2013 Cadillac ATS.

Designed to battle the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class, the new sport sedan will replace the BLS and slot beneath the CTS which is expected to grow in size when it is redesigned in 2014. While most of the styling details are covered by camouflage, the ATS will have an "Art & Science" design with vertical lighting units and a dual exhaust system.

The car will built at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant and ride on the new rear-wheel drive Alpha platform which can be outfitted with all-wheel drive. Engine options are slated to include a turbocharged four-cylinder and a V6 engine which could be receive twin-turbos in the ATS-V.

The new Cadillac ATS is scheduled to be launched late next year and will be followed by an estate, coupe, and convertible.

Definitely looks like it has 3 series like proportions. I've never really seen the CTS as a 3 series competitor.
