Ferrari FF gets a helicopter lift in the Dolomites [video]

"Get to da CHOPPA!" is what good ol' Arnold Schwarzenegger says in the movie Predator, and that's exactly what the Ferrari FF concept is doing.

With just a few days to go until the press is given access to the shooting brake concept, two of the four-wheel drive models have been air lifted to the top of Plan De Corones in the Dolomites. At 2,350 meters (7,710 feet) above sea level, a special ice and snow track has been constructed where journalists will test the cars under slippery conditions.

Since the area where the course is located is only accessible by ski-lifts, Ferrari enlisted the help of a CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter from Viterbo’s 1st Regiment Antares and three Agusta 205 helicopters from the 4th Regiment Altair from the Italian air force in Bolzano.

The FF at the top of Plan de Corones at 2,350 metres

Maranello, 10 March 2011 - Only a couple of days to go for the start of the FF tests by the press, where journalists from all over the world will drive the new V12 Ferrari for the first time on the roads of the Alto-Adige region: two Ferrari four-seaters with four-wheel drive have been taken to the top of Plan De Corones in the Dolomites at 2,350 metres, where a special ice and snow track has been prepared for the cars, located at the start of the vast ski area, where the journalists will test the cars under fierce conditions.

The cars have been taken to this area, which can only be reached by the ski-lifts, with a CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter from Viterbo's 1st Regiment Antares and the help of three Agusta 205 helicopters from the 4th Regiment Altair from the Italian air force in Bolzano. The cars were loaded into the transport helicopters and flown around the Dolomites, before they were carefully unloaded. In this much-anticipated event, with headquarters in Brunico, almost 200 journalists from the world's most important publications will participate over the next four weeks. After the great feedback generated by the FF at the Geneva car show now this revolutionary 12-cylinder from Ferrari is finally debuting on the road.

I?d rather buy the helicopter,it looks much better than that show pony Ferrari. If I was a 612 owner,I would keep it as a reminder of how a car should be designed.

Looks like a elongated version of BMW's Z3 Coupe. from what I remember that wasn't very successful..

Shouldn't the FF be able to get to that location without the help of a "choppa" with its almighty 4WD system?!

Yay, more bs footage of a $300k+ Ferrari in its unlikely environment. I mean, you don't see Lamborghini doing this crap, and they've had awd for years.

In the winter I see many people getting stuck in the snow driving SUV's and AWD crossovers. I've actually seen several of them unable to climb icy hills in the city. Watching a $300k+ /600+hp FERRARI being tossed around in the snow & ice covered Alp Mountains as if it was stolen is impressive. This is what I would expect to see from LR with the Range Rover Sport not from a 205+mph carbon fiber supercar. Love it or hate it, its in your face and it has your full attention. +1 for Ferrari. I hope Lambo is paying attention and readying the Estoque for production with an AWD system of its own. Im curious to see what the aftermarket tuners can do for this car.

I neither like nor dislike the FF and its 'tough-guy' marketing campaign portrayal. It seems to me, that Ferrari seems intended to replace BMW as the 'ultimate driving machine', with the breadvan. Don't get me wrong, perhaps Ferrari has the guts to expand itself (away from its traditional strategy) and compete against the firm's rivals.

the haters are idiots.. this car is much more aesthetically appealing then the Scag. This is a hatch, true. but the overall design is much more aggressive, around the track this thing would kill a Scag not to mention around a wet track/road etc. I suggest you stop pointing at the car you could never afford anyway and revert to arguing about whats better, and audi or a Bmerrrr :P
