Will likely feature a new 4.0-liter V8

Our spies have managed to catch an Audi S6 prototype undergoing testing in Germany.

Looking tastefully restrained, the S6 is distinguished by sportier fascias, aerodynamic side skirts, and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. Additionally, we can expect the production model to feature a revised grille and faux aluminum mirror casings.

Under the hood, power will likely be provided by a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine which will also be used in the Bentley Continental GT. It is reported that this engine using a single turbo version in the Bentley will produce 415 hp (309 kW / 420 PS). However, this is no good for the S6 as it's less than the outgoing 5.2-liter V10 that develops 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS). Surely, Audi will engineer output to be higher. Exactly how much, we'll have to wait and see.

Things are starting to get interesting now, I reckon the S6 will have about 460 bhp or there abouts...only thing they really have to worry about is the weight. For instance, the RS5 is quoted as having a weight of approx 1725 kgs but when independent testers weight it it came in at 1885 kilos!! 200 kg more than the M3...also, it's a little disappointing that the RS5 isn't at least faster than the M3 in a straight line (in the dry) considering they had the advantage of launching their car after the M3.

Agreed. Audi seems to have nice fit and finish quality, great interior, they look good, but they are heavy pigs, engines are too far in the front to handle nicely. Right now it seems that the only reason why you might prefer an Audi is when you live somewhere where there's lot of snow thru a big part of the year. Otherwise get an M3, even Lexus IS-F seems to be a nicer choice.

I think I'd get one too. The c63 chassis performance and characteristics are enough for everyday use and my skills, engine is easily tunable for 525hp+ (that's what you get in e63 with same engine) and most importantly you can get an estate.

Indeed the exterior design looks conservative, but it is the engine performance that matters most. Downsizing is the way for engine displacement, so (IMO) the upcoming turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 would probably churn the same performance figures as the RS5. Well, we will have to see what Audi has up its sleeves for the car.

No hate, but the article states that "..S6 is distinguished by sportier fascias, aerodynamic side skirts, and a four-tailpipe exhaust system" But the facias on these pictures are the same as the s-line package. It is going to be a little bit different i recon.

It?s hard to believe that the car manufacturer that produced a design as exciting as the R8 is also responsible for some of the most boring sedans every made.Better looking than Merc?s hideous designs but very boring.

New S6 should be more visually dramatic than this. I wouldn't let the 'undisguised' look fool me! I mean has anyone seen S3 saloon Concept?
