Lexus LFA N?rburgring races into Geneva
Lexus LFA N?rburgring Edition live in Geneva - 01.03.2011

Lexus has formally unveiled in Geneva a new set of upgrades for their LFA supercar.  The Nürburgring Package, first announced in March 2010, includes a series of improvements to the LFA to make it a more track-oriented car.  Those who purchase the package also get 'Ring driving lessons, and a one year pass on the course.

This kit will not be available on all LFA units, as the company is only producing 50 packages.  That means that only 10 percent of LFA owners will be able to purchase the upgrades, and it is not clear if the package can be retrofitted to first production year models.

Engineers tweaked the 4.8-liter V10 engine, boosting output by 10 hp (7.46 kW / 10 PS) to 562 hp (419 kW / 570 PS).  Also upgraded is the six-speed sequential transmission, now capable of a 0.15-second gear change, a 0.05-second improvement.  Included in the kit are several carbon fiber body pieces, including a fixed rear spoiler with fins, finned side spoilers, and a big front spoiler, as well as lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in racing tires.

All of the changes have lead to a 0-100 km/h sprint of 3.7 seconds, but the top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph) remains the same.  The car also gets a 10mm drop in ride height, and a retuned suspension.

The Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package was announced as costing $70,000 (€50,939), but limits exterior paint choices to black, matte black, orange and white.  European units will also get carbon fiber sport seats lined in Alcantara, as well as a carbon fiber center console and door inserts.

it took them 9 years to develop the car, that's why it has outdated performance and it costs so much. just like Toyota's Formula 1 efforts, several years , the biggest budget, zero victories.

sorry 599 gto but this car is probably the most bespoke front engined car on sale today.

True, especially with that engine of a dying breed and the lightning quick transmission.

the new GTR is a front engine car that's faster than this and probably faster than the 599 GTO and it's a front engine car. or a tuned Wiesmann MF5 roadster, more exclusive, faster and a lot better looking.

who would pick this instead of the Aventador. it is slower, has less cylinders, is much more expensive and looks like a mansory creation in comparison.

This car is already starting to look dated. I'd take an Aventador over this any day. And save money!...

Another $70K to that price tag, for a Supra! Unbelievable, it was overpriced before but WTF, So many cars faster for less.

Too many small-minded and bigoted people on this site. Get it through your heads; the Japanese car industry can mix it with the very best supercar firms on the planet! The LFA Lexus is just the tip of the iceberg; there are more coming from probably Mazda, Honda and even Subaru. Toyota is obviously selling them well with great publicity to boost its appeal.

all you haters out there.. it's not outright speed that matters.. just listen to its engine note.. that alone is worth $100,000.. plus many reviewers have rated the driving experience as being worth every penny! it also has one of the best looking interiors and won't break down after every few clicks...

Objectively, this car doesn't make much sense compared to similar top end cars. But that is hardly the point; if the point of a watch is just to tell time accurately, we'd all be wearing Casio Waveceptors and there would be no place for $400,000 Vacheron Constantine and Patek Phillipe pieces. But at that level, rarity, craftsmanship, uniqueness and even more esoteric factors come into play. The LFA is an engineering marvel that was released later than it should have been, but it is a still a fine car that will find many happy buyers who will appreciate it for what it is.
