 Hyundai i40 rolls into Geneva
Hyundai i40 live in Geneva - 01.03.2011

Hyundai introduced the Hyundai i40 to the media at the Geneva Auto Show today.  The Sonata-inspired car features a five-door design meant to appeal to European markets.

Designed in a development facility in Russelsheim, Germany, near Frankfurt, the i40 will be offered with several different powertrains.  Amongst these is a 1.7-liter diesel engine, likely the same CRDi unit created for the ix35.  The ix35 was also created at the same R&D center, and is sold with another purpose-built engine, a 1.6-liter GDI petrol.

Those ordering the i40 will be able to get convenient add-ons, like an automatic defogger and de-mist system, heated steering wheel, and heated seats in front and in back.  Sorry, Americans, but Hyundai reportedly has no intention of selling the car stateside, with one spokesman telling Inside Line that there are "no plans for a Sonata wagon in the U.S."

European consumers will get their first crack at the Hyundai i40 wagon in the second quarter of 2011, with a sedan model coming out later in the year.

The Hyundai design revolution continues even in this estate offering. The rear may have certain Avensis cues, but the face is unmistakably Hyundai and that's originality.

When I remind myself Pony model, now I can see how huge progress Hyundai has made. That's a good prognose for the future. Can't wait sedan.

Unlike the Avensis this looks attractive. Most of the design features are essential for the latest Hyundai trend which IMO is superior to most of its rivals currently.

I see the Ford's Iosis DNA in the face, Mercedes B and R class in the sides, and Toyota's knocking at the back door. In all seriousness, Hyundai's "originality" harkens back to the Japanese car manufacturers of the 60's and 70's, before they found their own voice.

If Hyundai decides to sell a wagon version of the current Sonata in the USA, this vehicle is essentially what the Sonata wagon will look like.
