Final production version of the Ampera debuts with a uniform price for all European markets

Opel has finally unveiled the final production version of the Ampera plug-in hybrid in Geneva today.

The specs remain as reported before. Total output is 111 kW (150 hp / 152 PS) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque with a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 9 seconds and a top speed of 161 km/h (99 mph).

The Opel Ampera will have a range of between 40 and 80 km (25 to 50 miles) running solely on electric power. That range gets extended to 500 km (310 miles) by means of a 1.4 liter gasoline/petrol engine which kicks in when needed to power both the electric motor directly or recharge the 16 kWh lithium-ion battery.

For the different kinds of routes, the Ampera will come with 4 drive modes - Normal, Sport, Mountain and City.

Opel has set a uniform price for the plug-in hybrid for all European markets. That's aprice tag of €42,900 which in Germany, Opel's domestic market, gets knocked down to 36,050 thanks to government tax credits.

The German automaker has reported more than 1,000 pre-orders have already come in for the Ampera model.

The Opel Ampera goes on sale in Europe in June.

Vauxhall may score well with this car in the UK market, but that depends on its price. In Europe, it may fare better, especially in Germany where the Police are planning to use it to chase criminals because they won't know its on their tail due to its silent progress. Don't ask me why!

they want to use it to patrol city streets, they don't disturb people during the night.

You don't think the stickers, siren and blue lights will give it away? I'd be more interested in range extenders with the Lotus custom made for the job powerplants in them. Existing ICEs are built to operate over a wide rev range, whereas when you ONLY need to generate power you really only to run at a single, optimised speed. That's what the Lotus engine is built to do, so is more fit for purpose, ergo likely to be more efficeint as a consequence. I don't think we'll be dumping ICEs any time soon, but they will change substantially as their role changes.

Kind of stupid to be honest. The Volt looks way better. they should've kept it chevrolet all over the world. and ampera just sounds stupid. I hope they bring it in as the Volt in NZ/Aus

Still a pointless purchase, but at least it looks ALOT better than the Volt.
