Nissan tries to poach Porsche owners in Germany for GT-R [video]

New street campaign by Nissan in Germany targets Porsche drivers and asks them to test drive the GT-R

How do you get a German Porsche driver to consider switching to a Nissan GT-R?

Well, how about sticking the message right in the driver's face?

Not so subtle, but sometimes the direct approach works best.

The idea for the campaign you see in action in the video here comes from Düsseldorf ad agency TBWA. The agency went around sticking an ad poster features the rear end of a Nissan GT-R on the windscreen of Porsche models. The ad asks the driver whether they would like to have different perspective and points them to the Nissan website in Germany to sign up for a test drive.

The agency claims test drive requests were up 23 percent after a two-week campaign. Seems pretty effective.

Maybe German Porsche drivers have more of an open mind than we thought.

If its selling points are that it's faster and cheaper than some 911s then Nissan should have gone just a bit further and made it a twin turbo skateboard.

Obviously I know what would I do. But what would you do If you find some one sticking some merchandising thing not to a Porsche but to a any car brand of your property?

Well that's not exactly true. When I think of Porsche drivers I think of either a Jersey Shore type meat-head or... um... how should I say... an effeminate man. Neither one would feel any guilt punching a pretty girl in the face.

Porsche drivers will never dream of a Nissan, but most Nissan owners dream of a Porsche.

Excellent post catchmyshadow Also,NOBODY has ever questioned or disputed the performance figures of ANY Porsche around a track or drag strip. However, there is not a magazine,tv show or car forum that has not questioned & DISPROVED the performance figures of the GTR.To compare a Datsun with a Porsche is like comparing an all American girl to a crack whore. KEEP DREAMING,GTR fan boys, you are not fooling anybody but yourselves.

Aren't you being a bit too sensitive? Hormones acting up? That time of the month? It made me laugh when I saw it and that's all I care about. Most of the 'Porsche' drivers were slugging around in 2000-yesteryear models, why not trade-up to a newer and arguably better car? You should keep in mind that you only look good in a new Porsche, a rare Porsche, or a classic Porsche. Anything else is just...

No I think the problem is that no matter how good Nissan did on this car, people with money to spare will go for the 911 Turbo, and I believe that's not just because of the Porsche name, but they are paying for the rich history of the 911 family. If the 911 was a brand new model by Porsche I bet the majority of people would opt for the GT-R rather than the 911 Turbo version in a heartbeat.

I think to each his own actually. Not everyone thinks the GT-R is a particularly good-looking car (me included) and the experience behind the wheel is probably different and up to personal preference as well. I don't think that people are going to spend their hard-earned cash just to be a part of Porsche history.

catchmyshadow, this is the best comment I ever saw in worldcarfans... this is why Nissan is the one sticking the merchandise to Porsche's front window but not the opposite. I wouldn't even imagine two stupid girls having t-shirts with the label Porsche on it and having fun while sticking the back of a car they are producing to the front window of a Nissan. Man that's amazingly absurd. Nissan is a looser brand and that is why he is free about doing anything he wants, he has nothing to loose. It's Nissan hahahahahaha think a little bit (I can feel you see the Micra, Pixo, Armada, Cube and other bad looking cars such as these ones when you hear the word Nissan).

i think nissan's new slogan should be "keep dreaming" in this video i see more annoyed porsche drivers than impressed one's...what's funnier is they make such big fuss about a "claimed" 23% increase in test drives...ROFL...so how many of those test drives ended in a purchase???

it's a fun way to poke at the porsche drivers. i agree, for those porsche drivers who are always stuck up, they would not buy a gt-r. for those who understands the GT-R, it would be a mind opener.

Nissan...it's not cool to try so hard... You've got the creds (performance figures) to fly first class. Just keep quiet enjoy the ride. All this aggressive & tacky attention gettin marketing hype is so...nouveau riche... There's some serious self-confidence issues...

yes I agree with schizo. Nissan shouldn't be a bunch of desperados trying to rob-off Porsche's sales. Probably they should poach all other supercars as well, Ferrari, Lambo, Buggati, Pagani, Corvette, Koenisegg, etc. What a joke.

Because you're a porsche fan boy and nissan created car which performance figures that exceed 911 Turbo gen 2 ones, you don't have any respect to them. That's why I hate these stupid a$$holes that call themselves porsche fans, cause they don't appreciate any other car.

LOL i love tons of other cars. and obviously the gt-r is a great car. please read this story again. i think it refers to their marketing tactics and it's a stupid one at that. like the other comment on here, "there's more annoyed drivers than ones being movtivated to test drive it." and have you even driven the gt-r or a porsche? i doubt you have!

Did they put an * at the end and wrote in fine print: drivers who use the launch control during the test drive are liable to pay full replacement costs for a gearbox which is about 1/3 of the MSRP ? Seriously Nissan, grow up!

Ahem, one question. The video is dated from the year 2007... So why is WCF talking about a "new" street campaign? I am not a big fan of this provocative attitude concerning Porsche btw.

23% more test drive requests? Hehehehe....this means that now 12 people asked for a test drive and not 10 or what?

what is wrong with you people, how old are you! Porsche and Nissan are both the best, Nissan is a nail in every butt now, and Porsche is a benchmark, nothing wrong with that! one thing, here in my region there is a driver who got 911 GT3 RS and brand new Nissan GT-R, I presume he is satisfied with both, so what are you dreaming that if you got one car then you don't wanna have the other???? Nissan GT-R & Porsche 911.....long live the best of the best!

Swiifty, that my friend was well said! Any true enthusiast doesn't care who made the car!!! Only that it performs automatic or not!!! I would like to know how many people who put their posts on here actually owns a 500hp supercar?? Jeremey Carkson tested the GT-R and gave it praise. Numbers don't lie! The GT-R performs and you have tons of magazine articles that back that up! Same goes for Porsche! As far as the video, it was entertaining.

Nissan looks so stupid with this sh.t idea :D looks to me that seals of GTR not so good like they wanted and now they are panicking and try all they can to grow they sales. there is more fights like Audi vs Bmw and EVO vs Impreza, but they are simular quality and power, but Nissan against Porsche, yeh, maybe same power, but quality is so fare from Porsche :D I see Japaneses really panicking and its not only Nissan, also Lexus and Toyota. they saying they are same like germans but cheaper :D yeah maybe thats will be when germans will stop making cars :D

The GT-R is still ugly. Nissan should try to make a truely desireable car and not waste time on gimmicks.
