 MG relaunches in the UK
SAIC MG 6 - 1188

Launches in April

After three years of kit building the ancient TF Roadster, MG has officially relaunched itself in the United Kingdom.

To spearhead the "reawaking," the company introduced the Euro-spec MG 6 which was originally unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2009. While the Chinese and UK versions are virtually identical, the British MG 6 has a nicer interior and will be built in Birmingham, England.

Three different trim levels will be offered, but all models come nicely equipped with power windows / locks, keyless ignition, and air conditioning. Options include leather seats, GPS navigation, cruise control, and a rear view camera.

When the car goes on sale in April, it will be available exclusively with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 160 PS (118 kW / 158 hp). Later, in early 2012, a 1.9-liter diesel will join the lineup.

Why are all of these awesome old sportscar makers making a comeback with these large sedans (I'm looking at you De Tomaso and MG)?

Its most likely outside investors who have really have no connection with the "old" makers. They just use/pay-for the name because the brand identity is already developed, and it saves them marketing costs.

It's not a large sedan, I treat it as small-size one when you have seen it on the roads

MG have built sedans (we call them saloons) for years, starting (from what I recall) with the Magnette of the 60s -- this is nothing new. But like De Tomaso, it is judge a badge these days with little real connection to the MG of old.

Oh my god... This could have been a turning point for them, but why on earth do they fit that creakingly old Rover K-Series engine onto this car ??

Are you sure its a K series with a turbo bolted on?? If soo thats properly shocking... that engine is nearly twenty years old with no real advances in technology.

Yes I think so, as they rebadge it as the 'N' Series engine, AND, the front subframe of this thing should be from a Rover 75, which is a very good car that I liked a lot, but really, they should be looking for new powerplants...
