Spy photos of the upcoming F10 BMW M5 reveal new features

Here's a set of spy shots of the upcoming (F10) BMW M5 dressed in blue out for some testing in the latter stages of its development.

The sedan prototype spotted here is still wearing some camo but the rear boot of the car is exposed where we can see a small spoiler has been fitted.

The next BMW M5 is expected later in the year but BMW will be debuting an M5 concept at the Geneva auto show on March 1st which will preview the car to some degree.

The next-generation M5, called the F10 for the sedan and F11 for the wagon body style model, will come with a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 with an output of 600 PS (592 bhp / 441 kW). The 0 to 100 km/h sprint will take 4.4 seconds.

The 2012 M5 is expected to make its debut in production trim at the Frankurt motor show in September.

ZHPRegistryNet...the E60 M5 already weighed in at 4035-4135lbs depending on which car magazine you read. this one should be well over 4000lbs. according to car and driver, the automatic 550i already weighed in over 4400lbs, so there is no way the M5 will weigh less than that. i'm guessing this new M5 will be at least 4500lbs. too heavy but i guarantee you it'll still be faster than the E60 M5, at the very least with its straight line performance cos BMW's probably has the 2nd strongest turbos in the industry behind porsche's. The nissan GT-R's turbo dont count cos nissan only has that awesome turbo for that car, the rest of their turbo's are pretty average.

That makes sense. Plus they ditched the aluminum front half in the F10, which is responsible for the weight spike from the E60. Assuming the same delta with this car it's just way too heavy. "Fast" is a relative term. Take it through a series of very quick left and right S turns and that power will do nothing for you.

Not using that hopelessly flawed M-DCT joke of a gearbox is a step in the right direction. This car is going to be a bullet.

Should go for Laguna Seca Blue! (just kidding, that would look horrible on an M5) It might suit the character of the upcoming 1 Series M Coupe, what do you think?

I love the Laguna Seca Blue, but I think it looks better on 3Series.

I read a story that said it's only gonna be available in automatic. Not sure how true that is, but I'll be sorely disappointed if that's the case. It'll still be amazing regardless though.

If it's Estoril blue, it must be a new mixture as the original was canned for being a rather eco-unfriendly paint to produce.

I believe you are thinking of the new 6er--much more of a 5-series coupe than the more halo-y e63.
