Stretched Porsche Panamera in the works for 2012 - report
2011 Porsche Panamera 4S, 18.06.2010

Extended-wheelbase variant of the Porsche Panamera will be aimed at the Chinese and North American markets

Porsche is developing a stretched version of the Panamera model which is set to debut next year, according to a report by Autoweek.

The news comes as no surprise given the popularity of extended-wheelbase models in the rapidly-expanding Chinese market where even a car such as the Audi A4 has a long-wheelbase variant. But according to Autoweek, the stretched Panamera will be aimed at the North American market as well.

The long-wheelbase Panamera will offer more rear leg room and longer rear doors (with wider aperture) for more comfortable passenger access. The wheelbase will be extended by up to 5 inches/12.7 cm for a total length of around 120 inches/305 cm over the current standard model's 115 inches/292 cm. That will still leave the Panamera a little shy of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class's 124 inch/315 cm wheelbase.

The extended-wheelbase Panamera will go on sale in 2012. The Panamera range is scheduled for a facelift next year too.

The Panamera Maybach may be a bit of a stretch and both are not particularly noted for their beauty. This is just an excuse by Porsche to get paid corporate style. Smart thinking; how else can you guarantee annual profit reports that will keep you in business? It would still handle like a Porsche ought to though!

The panamera is a driver?s car, but in china there are a lot of people that want to be driven around, even in a Panamera.

Eh I hate it when they make you choose between the SWB and LWB. Nobody really NEEDS the LWB unless they're getting driven around in it but then nobody wants to be 'inferior' by getting the SWB version so most people end up getting the LWB version anyway. I definitely don't think a LWB version of the Panamera is necessary at all.

luxury things are never necessary, but there is demand for them.

the panamera was designed to fit a 6ft german in the rearseats. methinks this shouldn't be an issue in china. but that's just me.

People that have $ to buy a car of this price in China also have a driver, especially in a sedan. Almost all versions of european/jap luxury sedans have LWB versions in China just because of this, everyone that can afford em has a driver and buys the specific model just because he likes the styling. They buy 2 seater sports cars for when they want to drive themselves, not 100k+ sedans. If i was a business man i'd need a fold out table from the rear of the front seats to place my laptop on, currently you can't really do that with the panamera.
