Minor tweaks, sportier driving expereience

Our intrepid spy photographers have managed to catch several new pictures of the 2012 Opel Astra GSI.

Drawing inspiration from the Astra GTC Paris Concept, the GSI features an aggressive front bumper, LED daytime running lights, a dual exhaust system, and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. Furthermore, the car will come equipped with a sport-tuned suspension and a revised interior.

Engine details remain elusive, but rumors suggest the car will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol with approximately 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS). While this doesn't sound like much, it will likely enable the GSI to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph).

Hope this will be the precursor to the fire-breathing VXR version. The equi-distant rear exits and rear spoiler makes the Astra look purposeful and lowered front end adds more visual machismo. Hope the real thing can deliver in the showrooms and, even more importantly, on the track with the Golf GTI!

I am a very satisfied previous Astra GTC owner and I can't wait to get my hands on the new one. But it better be as good as the boring Golf or I'm not getting it.

What is this ? We were all expecting the 2 door version with the 290 hp 2.0lt petrol. They already got 1.6lt turbo boosting 180hp beating all Golfs and Sciroccos.

@ Trailer: Perhaps the GTC will probably arrive later.

If they want to have an edge on 210hp Golf GTI, they better use the 220hp variant of the 2.0T engine as used on Insignia.

The GSI looks quite sporty and I like it. The VXR must have radical styling like the Focus RS does in comparison to the ST.
