French brand will offer all-wheel drive variant of 508 SW wagon

Peugeot will be looking to take on Audi's 'allroad' tradition with this new 508 SW Allroad, spied doing some winter testing in northern Europe.

It seems Peugeot wants to add a third variant to the 508 range, aside from the 4-door sedan and 5-door SW (wagon) variants, to compete against the allroad offerings of Audi's A4 and A6 models.

This new 508 SW Allroad may also be sharing technology with the bulky and heavily camouflaged DS5 we spotted testing a few weeks ago too.

Powering the 508 SW Allroad will likely be the heftier power plants in the Peugeot range. Those will include the 2.0 liter Hdi diesel with 163 PS (120 kW / 160 bhp) and the 3.0 liter V6 Hdi with 240 PS (177 kW / 237 bhp) on the diesel side. For the petrol, perhaps the 1.6 liter THP with 200 PS (147 kW / 197 bhp).

What we don't know is whether this allroader will come with Peugeot's Hybrid4 technology which couples the 163 PS 2.0 liter Hdi unit with a 37 PS (28 kW / 36 bhp) electric motor on the rear axle for all-wheel drive capability.

Peugeot's only other all-wheel drive model is the 4007 SUV.

contrary to everyone else so far, I think this will be highly successfull car, for one, it will offer more space and spec than the A4 at probably a comparable price and more specced than even the stock A6 which will have similar if not less space than the 508 ...StationWagon's are more about practicality than anything else, I'm just concerned about "All Wheel Drive" it would be interesting to know if it will be the first installment of Hymotion4, which to me does'nt mean permanent AWD, the 4007 is a an Outlander so it's kind of hard to believe it's gonna be a permanent AWD... same with the powerplants ...other than the 2 Litre Dieasel it's hard to see V6 comming into the fray ... the new 2.2 range topper should
