The German premium brand is reported to also be bringing a 5-Series hybrid to the show in Shanghai

According to a report by the Dutch publication AutoTelegraaf.nl, BMW will be bringing a concept version of its upcoming M5 model to the Auto Shanghai show in April.

The next-generation M5 (F10 for the sedan, F11 for the wagon) is expected to debut later this year. It will come with a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 dialed up to an output of around 600 PS (592 bhp / 441 kW).

As the Chinese market continues to grow rapidly and become one of the most important for premium automakers, more unveilings are taking place at shows in China. We have already reported that BMW will be introducing the next 6-Series Coupe at Auto Shanghai.

The Dutch report also says that BMW will have a 5-Series hybrid on hand at Auto Shanghai too. That model is scheduled to go to market this year and is expected to come with a twin-turbo straight-six 3.0 liter engine producing 306 PS (225 kW) coupled with a 40kW electric motor.

600 hp out of 4.4 liters, why does the ZR 1 Corvette only have 638 hp out of 6.2 liters?

Because the M5's engine is twin turbo charged and high strung. The Corvette ZR1 should certainly have much more torque, and can handle far more added power than the 4.4L BMW unit.

I don't understand why BMW has to make 'concept' versions of all their cars before they introduce them. Isn't the point of a concept to introduce a radically different idea that paves the way for a whole new generation of cars? The CS and Efficient Dynamic concepts, now those were interesting. Just cut the crap and bring us the real thing. I'm talking about the 6 Series too.

I absolutely agree. Who cares about the concept? We almost already know what the car is going to look like...

It seems to be the obligation of car companies to impress us with concepts and release a not as cool version of the same thing.
