BMW 6-Series Coupe coming to Auto Shanghai - report
BMW Concept 6 Series Coupe live in Paris 30.09.2010

Underscores China's growing importance

According to a recent report, BMW will introduce the 6-Series Coupe at Auto Shanghai 2011.

Expected to be virtually identical to the Concept 6-Series Coupe, the production model will feature a bold design with a prominent twin-kidney grille, xenon headlights, and LED fog lights.  Inside, the cabin will come nicely equipped with Dakota leather upholstery, a freestanding 10.2-inch iDrive display, and the usual wood / metallic trim.

At launch, engine options will likely include a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 320 hp (239 kW / 324 PS) and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 407 hp (304 kW / 413 PS). Regardless of what powertrain is selected, it will be paired to a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic.

Auto Shanghai kicks off on April 19th, so expect full details to be announced when the car is officially unveiled.

I agree... it almost looks like a badly done knock-off of the previous gen car.

Can't say the design is innovating or even really interesting. But it's clean and will probably look much better in person. And thank you BMW for going against the trend and putting a manual gearbox into this car.

i never like the bangle's 6er "Whale" look, and this hokeypokey "Angry Mickey" look is less damaging. (google angry mickey or mad mickey). the classic E24 shark nose really gave the big coupe a road presence.

I always have a little chuckle when people comment on how a new BMW styling change just wont work. When BMW went from the successful subtle styling to the provocative "Bangle era" styling the motoring world was crying and gnashing teeth while BMW sales figures increased further still. Now that the "Bangle era" is the accepted norm people are crying that BMW is making a mistake by going too soft :D Anyone see a trend wrt who is correct and who is making the wrong assumptions? If you want to see how successful BMW styling is just look at the change Merc and Audi have made to their traditional styling. To start a bun fight I'm going to say that BMW is the tail wagging the dog in the premium sector.

I would correct you on that, Daimler through their Maybach brand already had a trunk in the form of what later was called the 'Bangle Butt'. I would say Mercedes never copied the design from BMW, they just adopted it from Maybach who had it before the E65 7-series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maybach_62_BMK.jpg

I still don't like the recessed headlights and bulbous kidney grille: it makes the new 6series look like it's gurning! However, the derriere, interior architecture and side profile are works of art. No doubts about the firepower and chassis dynamics; that'a BMW specialty no matter the size. Can't wait to see both cabrio and coupe on the black stuff; I may just change my mind about that front!

Took me a moment to figure out your comment. So you hate Audi...good for you, I guess. And your competitor to the R8 is? I thought so. Thunk.

@rnsaza, can you provide the stats that says BMW sales increased over the years after bangle designs came in? versus their competitors (MB, Audi)? you will be surprised, everyone improved. that's due to global demand of these german cars in general, not because his designs.
