Lotus working on radical Evora facelift - report
2010 Lotus Evora

On sale later this year?

To combat sagging sales, Lotus has reportedly fast tracked the facelift for the Evora coupe.

Details are limited, but the car will feature heavily revised styling that mimics the Elan, Elite, and Esprit concepts from the Paris Motor Show. Furthermore, we can expect an updated interior with higher quality materials and additional standard equipment.

Engine options will likely carryover, so expect a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 PS (206 kW / 276 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque as well as a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 with 350 PS (258 kW / 346 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).

The updated Evora is set to go on sale later this year, so expect an unveiling at an upcoming auto show.

Hope it won't ruin the smooth styling of this car. This has to be one of the best cars Lotus has ever made !!

Exactly. Its not the looks that are the issue. Its the price. For what they want for the car you can get a much more capable Cayman or, after a few extras, a 911. If this car had been ?32,000 for a base model it would have shifted a hell of a lot more. ?50,000 is just too much. And whats the restyle going to do to the residuals of those cars that have been sold? Way to pi$$ off your customers.

most of the time when a restyling happens, the "old" version get a price reduction to empty the unsold before the new one gets in. i'd buy it then.

My guess is they going to go in the same line as the series of cars that they showed off a few months back, which isn't a bad thing, but I like the lok of this model.

Is that a guess? Or what you learned by reading the article directly above? I've never thought the styling worked on this car. A restyle would help, along with a lift in trim materials and overall quality.

I think the "sagging" sales has nothing to do with the styling, and changing the styling won't help much in sales. But better material and value will. I agree that this car is in a awkward place, right in the middle of the Cayman and Carrera. It needs to be positioned as a Cayman alternative, or a Carrera alternative, in order to take sales away from the Pcars.

The Exige, though polarizing, was eye-catching and unique. The Evora has never been particularly evocative in my eyes... it looks like the modern (beige) heir to the MR2. It has all of the peculiarities of the Elise cars with none of the alluring mystique. Add that to the fact that it has a Toyota motor humming away just behind your head, and it takes a real enthusiast to see the value. If they want to escape the niche market, they need to work on their brand by developing their own motors, not just repackaging one from a Camry. They might have the cache in the old world to get by, but not in America...

Hard times for Lotus. Maybe a consultation with Audi designers can help with interior appointment of all future Lotus products and also enlist the services of its engineers with the firepower too. Though armed with obvious dynamic brilliance, the Evora is still a bit rough around the edges to be a Cayman/Z4/SLK rival; the price being a major sticking point!

IMO Lotus needs a bread-and-butter model that sells for less than 20 grand!

I think everyone above has touched on the key points. To add to what 9T said, it's pretty silly that any company would move upmarket in this economic climate, no?
