Will feature a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8?

Our spies have managed to catch several new images of the 2012 Mercedes C55 AMG Coupe.

Spotted wearing minimal camouflage, the coupe appears to have a front end that is virtually identical to the sedan variant which leaked late last month.  Further back, the car's profile is similar to the standard C-Class coupe but there's modified side sills, a larger rear spoiler, a four-tailpipe exhaust system, and AMG wheels which cover a high-performance braking system with cross-drilled brake discs.

Unlike the sedan and estate, which use a 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 with 451 hp (336 kW / 457 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, the coupe is slated to feature a naturally-aspirated version of the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 from the S63 AMG and CLS63 AMG. Details are limited, but the engine is expected to produce 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS) and have multi-cylinder deactivation for improved fuel efficiency.

No word on when the car will be unveiled, but the standard model is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

I'd go for a C55, because a c63 sounds awsome, but just the same as an muscle car. The old amg cars with 5,5L have a unique sound.

I doesnt matter if it comes with only 420hp from factory, this is engine is capable of 500+HP, and with a simple Renntech ECU upgrade youll get there.

so this will have the 5.5 without turbos and churn 420 hp. and the other 63 amgs will have the same 5.5 but with 2 turbos and 450 hp. Woooww!?!?! to top it off mercedes needs another "amg performance package" for the C coupe amg, whch gives it 5.5hp more. or smthing like that.... pathetic. i miss the old c 43 and 36 amgs

Uh oh... Loved the engine on my C63. I can't see anyone being nigh too pleased with a 5.5 V8 after the GODLY soundtrack the 6.2 had...

Hell, i'd go as far as saying the C63 was closer to my SLS sound than the E63 is! This is high complement to anyone who's heard either in action.

Is this the substitute for the CLK class?I think that Mercedes needs a replecement for the CLK. This C coupe could be a good choice.

Well, its kind of a replacement for the CLK. The CLK was eliminated and replaced with two cars really, this new C-Coupe, and also the E-Coupe, which are both based on the C-Sedan Platform, as the CLK was.

Welcome back 55! The 63 AMG just didn't have the same cachet nor fuel economy of the 5.5litre V8 (nor its thunderbolt soundtrack)! The RS5 and M3 coupes are in for a showdown with the C55!

I strongly disagree with you on the soundtrack. You could hear the 63 coming from a mile away, and it would often shake the ground nearby.

I disagree as well. Pretty much everyone I know who's a Merc fan (and a whole lot that aren't) marvels @ the noise the 6.3 makes... especially with the P30 package.

I agree, the 6.3 is the better sounding engine. That was engineered into the car 'artificially', or intentionally. I think MB will see fit to replicate that noise with this engine too.
