Avensis touring car will makes its debut at the Dunlop MSA BTCC event at Brands Hatch

Toyota is moving ahead with its Avensis-based BTCC touring car which is currently undergoing wind tunnel testing at the MIRA aerodynamic facility in the UK.

The Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) Avensis is being built by GPR Motorsport and two teams have already committed to running the Avensis in the BTCC series - Dynojet and Speedworks.

The touring car was tested in the MIRA wind tunnel alongside its road-going sibling. The test was to establish a baseline for its aerodynamics and fix a position for the large rear wing to provide the proper level of down-force, according to the championship's technical director, Peter Riches.

"I am pleased to say that this was quickly achieved, and it means that we now have a base line for all cars built to the NGTC regulations and have saved a lot of development time and potential expense for the teams," said Riches.

The Avensis BTCC will make its racing debut April 3 at the Dunlop MSA BTCC event at Brands Hatch.

maybe they will decide to make a hot Avensis with a BTCC inspired bodykit and the engine from the IS-F.... in a dream world.

To be fair, the Avensis chasis is well engineered, thoroughly modern and good enough to underpin the Scion Tc, Lexi HS and CT as well as others in the Toyota empire. It should serve the two teams well in terms of dynamics for the BTCC races.

I agree with dmanero. Still reminds me of a camry and I'd half expect a grey haired retired race driver to be behind the wheel. U just can't think anything else with that front grille.

@ dmanero 1. It's Camry, not "Camery"; 2. This isn't boring, it's a touring car, for God's sake.
