2012 Nissan GT-R shows-off its launch control [video]

New launch control function helps smooth out and maximize the GT-R's sprint

0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds flat!

Now, you can watch how the 2012 Nissan GT-R achieves that remarkable feat with the help of its launch control function - called the R-Mode Start Function or the LC4 R35.

It does so in several 'take-offs' in this video.

Nissan tested the GT-R's time on the Sendai Hi-land Race Way in Japan last year and that 3 second sprint time is impressive for a relatively well-priced sport model like the GT-R. By comparison, the next Lamborghini LP 700-4 uses a carbon fiber body and a 6.5 liter V12, with 700 PS (690 bhp / 515 kW) to get that flagship supercar's 0 to 100 km/h sprint in at under 3 seconds (2.9 seconds is the official Lambo time).

The 2012 Nissan GT-R comes with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine featuring an output of 530 hp (395 kW / 537 PS) and 488 lb-ft (661 Nm) of torque.

I have to agree with B M Gearhead and 6spdterror. I love the GTR and would love to get one but after reading all the transmission problems it swayed me away a little bit. Knowing I won't use the launch control and won't mod the car, is probably why I still will purchase one. But saying this car is the poor man's anything is a bit much. This is an $80k car, someone that can afford one is far from poor. We're car guys, we can't deny the unbelievable performance of this machine. The 458 would catch on fire, numerous times...c'mon people. I rather have a car where the tranny goes if i abuse it than having a Ferrari that bursts into flames upon a moments notice. Yes, the 911 Turbo is bulletproof out of the box, but it's also $130k without options! At the end of the day the GTR is an amazing car and it's got some problems yea, but most cars do. Give Nissan a break, at least they're improving on it. It will only get better and more reliable!

I rarely comment on this board because of all the so called "internet thugs" and know-it-alls who cant have an educated, informed and respectful debate on anything. I personally dont like GTRs and would never own one but the car is a marvel. It blows the doors off almost anything out there at a fraction of the cost. Yes the tranny issues were a pain and so was nissan's questionable way of not standing behind their product but give credit where its due. 99% of the people that come here talking about Porsche this and Lambo that......cant even afford one. Grow up people

@Accousticjama - Last time I heard the 911 cost more than a GTR, and any true prosche lover would never settle for a average 911, they'd go for a GT2 or GT3 RS. which if far more than a GTR. And you must be some old fart if you still classifying this car as a Datsun, GTR range have never been datsuns. and A R35 can smoke the Porsche 911 any day of the week, they have already proven that.

basically all the haters of the GTR hate it because it is japanese... and that seems more than a little discriminatory. Considering everyones beloved Ferrari 458 burst into flames cos they didnt glue it together properly I dont think European sports car manufacturers can be so high and mighty.

Just because the GTR is a relative bargain does not make it immune to critique. Criticizing the warranty issues and transmission failures is perfectly legitimate in any case. It's not about "hating", it's about realizing the simple economic fact that you get what you pay for. Having to pay $20k for a transmission rebuild because the manufacturer is incapable of offering launch control without the transmission exploding is NOT a testament of the "wonderful technological marvel of the GTR"! Having to wait four years after the car's release for the manufacturer to get the transmission in order is pathetic by any current automotive standards. It's no wonder people still prefer paying 60% more for a 911 Turbo that actually works!

I don't like this car and would never own one and that is based purely on my personal preference. But what you cannot deny is that this thing is amazing, the numbers don't lie. To say you don't respect it because of price is silly, who in the world is going to buy this car to try to impress you, yes specifically you? And to say it shouldnt be compared a Lambo is actually correct. Everybody knows that Lamborghini has no racing pedigree whatsoever while Nissan has a comparably rich history in racing. The one time Lambo provided engines to Formula one they sucked.... really bad! Here is a quote taken from Wikipedia: "The 1992 Larrousse–Lamborghini was largely uncompetitive but noteworthy in its tendency to spew oil from its exhaust system. Cars following closely behind the Larrousse were commonly colored yellowish-brown by the end of the race." I would never buy either brand but if somebody held a gun to my head and made me choose, I would opt for the Nissan.

Lets not hate people... Lets all admit to how damn amazing this car gets. Plus if you can afford to tune the car why would you let a Warranty stop you? Cleary if you can afford a $15000 exhaust kit you can do what ever you want

Can you imagine if they limit this car to 112 mph in japan! Brutal acceleration for 6 seconds and then you get thrust forward. Wow. But this really is and for those who can't respect it then just don't say anything at all.

to all the haters that can't appreciate an exceptional feat for what it is: good think most people don't care about YOUR respect, or YOUR definition of worthiness. the numbers don't lie, deal with it and stop crying because it's not fair. now being rich is not the requisite to drive fast anymore. and yeah i feel for you when you get burn at the light by a "Datsun", kind of make you wonder why you spend so much, but hey! you have a lambo.

How can you compare Datsun with Lamborghini? The poor man’s supercar with a warranty that prevents performance is not worthy of being compared to Ferruccio Lamborghini's 1960 tractors let alone his legendary road cars.
