7th generation Golf will use new VW Group build architecture to save on production costs

VW is stepping on the accelerator in developing the next-generation Golf model.

According to Reuters, VW will be introducing the Golf VII as early as November 2012, although a VW spokesperson would not confirm the exact month that the 7th generation Golf would go on sale. The latest date would be in early 2013.

VW has reduced the model life cycle of the current Golf, the biggest-selling car in Europe, because the model continues to be built on the old PQ35 platform. The next model is slated to use the VW Group's new MQB modular transverse architecture ("Modular Querbaukasten" in German) which will also underpin the 2012 Audi A3.

The MQB is a cost-saving architecture that VW Group plans to use to build up to 3 million vehicles a year. The architecture can be broadened to include many different models.

The next-generation Audi A3 is expected to debut before the next Golf and is due to go on sale in the summer of 2012.

Go GOLF, go!!! VW, please. This car should be the flagship for VW. Don't do any stupid design nor ugly, lazy facelifts already made in other models. I'm hoping to subtitute my GOLF V for the new VII if it is not ruined.

wow, feels so quick! imo the VI was a step down from V in originality, and given VW's current design direction, the VII will be even more bland.

IMO, I think the Scirocco looks better.... Why dont they make a sedan or a coupe out of it...it would look stunning...

VW make great cars but the designs have about as much fizz as the leftover champagne in the fridge from new years. The photocopy look across the range is starting to grate, with the VW designers making Toyota look positively adventurous in comparison. I hope the VII breaks the cookie cutter mould.

Hope it doesn't go "Focus" and a step backwards in the handling department!

I tPO prefer the v to the vi. For me the coolest detail is the headlight when viewed from the front. It's timeless and pure function. The new generation headlights are too starwars inspired and in a few years will be a dated look.

It seems like to VW the most important thing is saving costs. Making exciting cars seems to be not on the menue. But what does it matter how it will looks, it will sale anyway.

My suggestion to VW, and as a current owner of 2007 GTI, is to push the wheels out forward and backward in both the front and rear respectively, thereby increasing the wheelbase hence more room inside; leave the overall car's length and height (I am 6.1 ft) unchanged.

I hope VW will change the gas engine of the north american golf from an inline 5 cyl to an inline 4. The 5cyl is crap mileage wise. Hope they will also have a turbo option.
