Panamera diesel expected later this year

Porsche is considering bringing diesel models stateside.

"We are discussing internally if we should introduce the Cayenne diesel in the U.S. this year. Also a Panamera diesel is an option," said Bernhard Maier, Porsche's sales and marketing director, in an interview with Automotive News Europe.

"We will make a decision soon," said Maier.

Porsche already sells the Cayenne diesel in Europe and is expected to debut a Panamera diesel variant this year. According to Automotive News Europe, Porsche may bring both a Panamera diesel and gasoline-electric hybrid to the Geneva auto show in March.

Porsche introduced the Cayenne diesel in 2008. It comes with a 3.0 lite TDI with 240 PS (176 kW / 237 hp) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.

A Panamera diesel is expected to come with the same power plant coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission good for a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just over 7 seconds.

Maier said that the brand does not intend to take any diesel variants to China given the poor quality of diesel fuel in the country.

911 and Diesel is an absolute nono. Pana, Cayenne okay, because mileage is very important for such cars but not a 911 diesel plz.

I don't think a diesel would fit unless it's a flat-6. And weight may be an issue in a rear-engined car, as diesels then to be heavier. But IMO most 911 buyers are petrol-snobs anyway, and don't think I would want a diesel version - sorry!

Definately would sell for the soccer mom and dads buying the Cayenne. Panamera is already over 100k, at that price who cares about fuel cost over a loud clunky slow engine.

When Ferdinand Porsche started off, he was making Agricultural tractors. Diesel Porsche's are nothing new to the brand.
