Driver of 911 test vehicle barrels into a snow bank on his way to the ice track

Those winter tests are meant to be grueling but trying to get a 911 through a meter of snow, well, that's just not what the car is made for anyway.

Here's a set of spy shots of a Porsche 911 prototype stuck in the snow as the car undergoes development testing somewhere in Scandinavia. Apparently, the driver of the test vehicle lost control of it on his way to the ice track, ironically enough, and drove into a snow bank.

Fortunately, no one was hurt but the driver did have to wait for a colleague in a Porsche Cayenne to help him get the 911 prototype out.

The next-generation Porsche 911 base-model will come with a 3.4 liter Boxer engine with an output of 350 PS (257 kW / 345 bhp) - good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 289 km/h (180 mph). The Carrera S gets a revised 3.8 liter unit with 400 PS (294 kW / 395 bhp) enabling it to do the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 302 km/h (188 mph).

The 2012 Porsche 911 is due for unveiling later this year.

Wouldn't helping interfere with testing?? :)

I'm sure there's something I'm not seeing here - the drive wheels are free and they have the weight of the engine to give them traction...

I'm quite sure the guy must be feeling panicky-all-over as spy photographers capture the embarrassing moment.

There is no shame in driving of the road in this kind of conditions, everyone in Norway does it atleast one time in their life. But it is usually the youth, and it is almost everytime a product of some handbraking action! hehe. But with a lot of snow it isn't dangerous at all. It can be a pain in the ass getting out though, eventhough you have the drivetrain free, as there can be ice under the snow. This makes it almost impossible to get out..

This new 911 shape puts the 'wide' into widebody! And they say Beyonce got a booty!! Final version could actually be pretty cool to look at! Poor chap in the snow. The Cayenne is useful after all!

Good to see the choice of Porsche support vehicles is the.... Ford Mondeo Wagon. [hope Ford doesn't ruin the handling on the new one as they may have done with the new Focus]
