AMG developing a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8 - report
Will be used in the SLK55 AMG and C55 AMG Coupe
According to a recent report, Mercedes is developing a naturally-aspirated version of the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 used in the S63 AMG and CLS63 AMG.
Details are limited, but the new engine will reportedly produce 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS) and feature multi-cylinder deactivation for improved fuel efficiency. While nothing is official, it is rumored to debut in the upcoming AMG variants of the SLK and C-Class Coupe.
Oddly enough, the C63 AMG sedan and estate will reportedly retain the 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 with 451 hp (336 kW / 457 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. Likewise, the Black Series Coupe will also use a modified version of this engine but previous rumors have suggested it will feature the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8.

What would be the point of having 2 naturally aspirated AMG V8 engines?

I fail to see the point of the 6.2, and 5.5 is absurdly large as well. BMW's new ///M V8 is only 4.0 but still grinds out 415HP despite being lighter than the I-6 which preceded it. Its hard to get the torque without the displacement, I admit. The V8 arms race is all but over as consumer demand switches to small, light and efficient motors. I want more bang for my buck, not maximum bang...

While bmw makes me sad, mercedes makes the day with this powerhouse. No small things here.

Don't they already have a 5.5L (5.4L) 388HP engine? So it has 425HP... big deal?
Infinity has 5.6L that makes 420HP...
Ahhh I dunno. Nothing to write news about, IMO. Unless it has some best-in-class fuel economy.. which it won't.
