Audi trademarks SQ5 and RSQ5 monikers
RSQ5 model remains unlikely but Audi may still be developing an S variant of the Q5 SUV
Audi has registered the SQ5 and RSQ5 nameplates with the appropriate trademarking authorities, according to a report by Car and Driver.
The hint, of course, is that Audi is developing both an S and RS version of its mid-sized Q5 SUV.
But registering trademarks on the names doesn't necessarily translate into all-out development of those models. Audi may be simply holding the names for safe-keeping.
Last fall, we reported that Audi's head of technical development Stephan Reil ruled out RS variants of both the Q5 and Q7 models.
But an S variant may still be in the cards. Last spring we reported that a possible SQ5 would come (sometime later this year) with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 333 PS (245 kW / 329 bhp) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque, as on the S4.
