Porsche 918 Racing Coupe teased ahead of Detroit debut [video]

Unveiling is just hours away

We're just hours away from Porsche's unveiling of a "speculator" new model, but the company has just released a teaser video which shows the car is the long-rumored 918 Coupe.

Details are limited, but previous reports have suggested the car will feature a V8 engine with upwards of 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS). However, it remains to be seen if this is a concept, a production model, or a possible racing variant.

The car's unveiling is scheduled for 6:30 AM EST, so stay tuned for details.

It?s definetly a LeMans race car. Starting number at the doors, slick tyres etc. I?m not very excited about a race car. It?s not a new model and its no way spectacular after the 918 spyder presentation last year...

Beautiful car, but this is another moment where Porsche teases but doesn't deliver. Its either a racecar for multi-millionaire playboys or another limited edition expensive toy not for everyday use. How about making a car like that at double the 911 price rather than Carrera GT price & production numbers, Porsche? I can't find anything in your lineup to buy...

The hype will be justified because Porsche 'supercars' always do and they are almost as rare as a dodo! Remember the seminal 959 and the Carrera GT? This is a 917 Racer for the road once production status has been accorded the 918!!
