Expected to debut in Geneva

The first pictures of the 2012 Mercedes C-Class Coupe have leaked to the web ahead of its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

While the front is identical to the facelifted sedan and estate, virtually everything aft of the A-pillar is unique to the coupe. Overall, the design is tastefully elegant as there's a kinked rear window and an upward sweeping shoulder line. Unfortunately, engineers were forced to install a traditional B-pillar which a bit of a bummer as the pillarless design is a hallmark of Mercedes coupes.

Moving on to the interior, the redesigned cabin appears intact but the five-seat rear bench will undoubtedly be replaced by two individual seats.

Engine options will likely carry over from the sedan, but the coupe will eventually be offered in Black Series guise with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with up to 571 PS (420 kW / 563 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.

It's a shame about the B-Pillar, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the design and I think the Black Series will be awesome!

a HOT MESS! I feel like this car has already been around for 3 years. I'm not impressed in fact, I'd take a BMW 3 series coupe over this any day. Whatever happend to plans for the C class 2 door sport hatchbck, that seems much more in line with the times. This just looks extremely ordinary.

All I can say is WOW! I was expecting a disaster but I'm pleasantly surprised. Whoever Mercedes Benz team of designers are, they are worth every penny that they are getting paid.

@ schnitzerx , that's because lately the Korean designs come from Germany.

@scratchy: True, the head designer for KIA, Peter Schreyer, was poached from Audi, and you can tell. As for this car, they did a great job. Nice and understated.

Overall, the design is excellent, far better than what I expected. But the B-pillar thing, I just don't buy it...

maybe the car is lighter this way , without the reinforced roof structure, and that's always a good thing.

incredible sexy. didn't expected this beauty. Yes, without b-pillars it whould be more Mercedes GT-Like, but hey: I don't need to see the AMG-version, when THIS will be ste stock one. It's so sporty and elegant!

def. nice the C-Coupe, finally something to rival the bmw 3-series coupes. The AMG version of this coupe should be an M3 coupe killer!

This is a pleasant surprise for sure! The B-pillar thing aside...do you guys think this is going to have an impact on the sales of the "E"-Coupe?
January 7, 2011 7:53 am
 alessandro alessandro
There is a true reason for that b-pillar - preserve E-coupe sales.
