Cadillac axes SRX Turbo - report

Cadillac axes SRX Turbo - report
2011 Cadillac SRX 05.07.2010

Was priced at $49,315

According to a recent report, Cadillac will drop the turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 from the SRX lineup.

Speaking with GM Inside News, company spokesperson Robyn Henderson said the SRX Turbo - with 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque - was being axed because of low sales. While she hinted fuel economy concerns were to blame, there's a more likely scenario - the $49,315 SRX Turbo was overpriced. For comparison, the entry-level SRX costs $33,830 and uses a naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter V6 with 265 hp (198 kW / 269 PS) and 223 lb-ft (302 Nm) of torque.

It remains unclear if the death of the SRX Turbo will affect the Saab 9-4X Aero (which also uses the turbocharged 2.8-liter V6), but it's doubtful.

The base SRX is ridiculously underpowered, and the turbo is ridiculously overpriced. Seems like an interesting conundrum...

they shouldve axed the base engine and made the turbo standard but with an in between price. $38,000 maybe? but that $49,000 price tag is just a waste of money.

Amazing how overpriced it is...a simple ecu remaping and a sports exhaust will probably give you the extra power the turbo engine does...thye should consider introducing a diesel engine imo

If they push the 3.0L any harder it'll fall even further from decent fuel economy than it already is(which is at the bottom of its class). It seems their only (cost-effective) option is to revamp the options into just one or two packages (like the Asian luxury manufacturers do) until update time comes around and significantly reduce weight or upgrade the base engine at that time. However, I don't know if they have a direct bolt-in replacement for the 3.0L that would be any better. Seems there's no cheap way out of this one.

@benz man: Nice comment! About the car, is this an exclusive for USA market or could we expect it for Europe as well?
