A little bit of everything

Citing the success of the DBS UB-2010 and DBS/V12 Vantage Carbon Black, Aston Martin has announced plans to offer three new DB9 special editions.

The Morning Frost Volante will feature a bespoke pearlescent white exterior with silver accents and 19-inch diamond-turned wheels. Inside, the cabin boasts metallic bronze leather, unique sill plates, and Piano Black trim.

On the other hand, the Carbon Black and Quantum Silver DB9s have black accents, a sport exhaust system (with graphite-finished tail pipes), and exclusive 19-inch gloss black wheels. Interior upgrades include perforated seats, a leather roof liner, and polished glass switchgear.

No word on pricing, but all three special editions are currently available for order.

ASTON MARTIN CELEBRATES 2010 - ‘THE YEAR OF THE SPECIALS'

Gaydon, 22 December 2010. In 2010, Aston Martin celebrated its product line-up demonstrating its ability to react quickly to customer demands and to create tailor-fit sports cars. Aston Martin is agile as a small volume manufacturer and this year has created: V12 Vantage Carbon Black, DBS Carbon Black, DBS UB2010, V8 Vantage N420 and now new DB9 offerings will cater for individual tastes across the world.

This attention to individual tailoring began in February when production of the Carbon Black editions began, followed in March with a Works Tailored commission made by Aston Martin to celebrate CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez's tenth anniversary at the helm of the marque in creating 40 limited edition UB-2010 DBSs. The unique specification includes metallic leather with a woven leather seat insert. The car bears the signature of Dr. Bez, who is personally signing-off each example.

In July, Aston Martin announced the V8 Vantage N420 limited edition; a race inspired version of the V8 Vantage celebrating the marque's close links with the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife where the development of all Aston Martins takes place, and where each year, multiple Vantage entries compete at the Nürburgring 24 hour race.

The new DB9 editions offer three juxtaposed options; the Morning Frost luxury specification gives the DB9 an extra sense of sophistication resplendent in a pearlescent white exterior with a befitting metallic bronze leather interior. In contrast, the two menacing sport specifications take advantage of the special edition Carbon Black paint and Quantum Silver made famous by the DBS featured in the last James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. The exterior finishes perfectly compliment the Obsidian Black interior along with a highly polished Piano Black centre console and interior door handles.

Both the DB9 Carbon Black and Quantum Silver also feature the six-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission, a re-mapped sports exhaust providing an even more evocative sound when driving spiritedly and unique 19" 10 spoke forged gloss black painted diamond-turned wheels. Black grilles, graphite tail pipes, perforated seat inners, semi-aniline leather roof lining, coarse silver stitching and real polished glass switchgear complete the sport specification.

The DB9 Morning Frost also benefits from the Touchtronic II transmission mounted on the transaxle giving the car perfect 50:50 weight balance. 19" 10 spoke silver diamond-turned wheels, silver brake calipers, magnum silver grilles, and metallic bronze leather headlining with perforated seat inners along with Piano Black centre console and door grabs create a sophisticated ambiance.

The three editions are bestowed with a unique laser etched sill plaque depicting the famous wings insignia along with "Morning Frost", "Carbon Black" or "Quantum Silver."

These special editions are available to order now from Aston Martin's global dealership network.

I just dont understand why somebody would buy a db9 when they could get a gtr for 80k which is light years ahead of this ancient aston martin in style and performance.

Because some people have style and taste, and they can afford having it.

Two words: The Badge. That's the only way I see this car selling. My two favorite cars in this sector, the Nissan GT-R, as you mentioned, and the 911 Turbo are much better than this.

Given the choice, I'd have an Aston over the GTR and Porsche. It's not just about the badge, it's about the entire package.

DB9 has the charm and language of a supercar. Nissan GT-R is more like a coupe sports sedan or gran tourer.

Dead? Why dead? I think it looks gorgeous and the DBS even better. Few days ago I was overtaken by a silver DB9, man I would like to be in that car! @topgunactor: please don't compare a Nissan GTR with an Aston, they are very differnt cars. Of course its way cheaper but it is not the same. Man how you just said that? GTR is a great car but it will never have so much style and history like an Aston-Martin, Ferrari or Mercedes-Benz.

I agree Hardboy, I was driving in a shopping mall car park the other day here in London and this guy pulled up in a shiny black DBS. The sound was epic. Him and his partner got out and she was, well...stunning. You just don't get that sort of effortless gentlemanly class with a GTR or Porsche (great cars also of course).

It's an AM so it will cost a rediculous amount of $$ more than the normal DB9 just for a paint and a few accents

What a stupid and silly idea created by AM marketing!!! Create an edition which is nothing else but the paint which was available earlier. Have you ever seen Ferrari creating a special edition 599 GTB F1 Rosso Corsa or 612 Grigio Titanium or a Porsche 911 Carrera GT silver??? No , because they think their clients are inteligent!!!!

And yet Porsche, Lamborghini, Pagani, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Koenigsegggeggeg all make special editions. Doesn't really matter what they're called. ALL car sales and promotion is down to marketing.

Sometimes I really don't get it. A manufacturer comes up with a limited edition, and its slagged off. Some 3rd party takes a car, throws a load of plastic/fibre-glass or (often fake) carbon-fibre at it, ruins the styling, and people start drooling.... Having seen some 'tuners' idea of quality.. well, words fail me.

If you can't sell, you can't tell how much money you can make on essentially the same car remixed three times over! Customers are suckers for marketing gimmicks and the marketers are making a killing on that global fact! Observe the interior architecture and the exterior detailing of the DB9; it's the craftsmanship old chap! The Turbo and the GTR are proof the performance game has been moved on a notch, but the DB9 is still the last word on automotive gentility. Even Rick Ross came up with a hit track titled, 'Aston Martin Music' no less!
