Suzuki launches U.S. ads claiming Kizashi sedan can outdo Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class

Ad blitz will feature Kizashi out-maneuvering rivals in spots that will air during NFL games and the Academy Awards

Suzuki will be launching a bold new ad campaign in the United States on Christmas Day pitting the brand's 2011 Kizashi Sport sedan against the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300.

The campaign will include ad videos which can be seen at www.kizashikicks.com. The site currently features a brief video with the Kizashi Sport sedan allegedly out-maneuvering rivals such as the A4 and the Acura TSX in terms of braking and cornering on a desert track.

The performance tests will also feature in 15 and 30 second ad spots the Japanese brand will air on TV in the United States market. The campaign will run through to March 2011 and the ads will be aired during sporting events such as NFL and NCAA games as well as during the Academy Awards and hit shows such as American Idol.

The marketing blitz will be Suzuki's largest in years as it hopes to reclaim some market luster in the U.S. where its sales have fallen dramatically. The Kizashi has sold just 5,269 units in the first 11-months of the year in that market and yearly brand sales have fallen to less than 39,000 units in 2009 from a high of 101,884 vehicles in 2007. Suzuki sales will be down an additional 42 percent in 2010.

"The Kizashi we developed here was designed to appeal to buyers who appreciate and desire to own entry level sport sedans ... and to do so at a price that's within reach of most buyers...[but] to get that story out has been the real challenge," said Steve Younan, director of marketing at Suzuki.

I saw a white Kizashi few days ago (Europe - very few of them here) and I have to admit it does look quite awesome.

Meh, maybe it's a better car than A4 or C-Class but the design is way too generic to even be considered.

I have to admit that Suzuki did a great job with the Kizashi, and even though it might out maneuver/run the Audi's or Ben'z, but it will not outsell them, not a single chance. Keep trying and keep up the good work Suzuki!!

A crappy suzuki kizashi will never outrun an S-Line (Sport suspension)a horsepower equal A4 (2.OT or Diesel) Keep on dreaming suzuki just another ad campaign that failed May I remind you of Minis outrageous claims top beat a 911 on a specific handling course also didnt go down to well

Not sure why ads always have to take pot shots at the competition? Is its only apeal that it can out handle A4 and C? Or maybe thats the only thing its good at...

I would buy one if they add a turbo to it... the 2.4L is just underpowered...

Forget the A4, they're crap at handling. BMW first and then C class. They should go for a cut price 3 series rival.

Go out and drive one. You have no idea what you are talking about. The A4 is superior to the C in just about every way (I should know, I own both), and about as good as the 3er (in some ways, even better). Not to mention the ride quality is definitely the best of the three, and so is the feel of the steering.

I hope they could do well. Haven't come across one in real life yet, but seems like it's a very decent car. The only problem is the brand name though. It's a decent car, but buying it means you choose a "Suzuki" over Audi, Mercedes and BMW... not sure if price insensitive customers would like that idea...

Suzuki must think like Toyota, Nissan and Honda did by establishing stand-alone premium car divisions (Lexus, Infiniti and Acura respectively) to rival Europe's elite such as Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW. However, the Kizashi is a highly credible job that needs to be introduced to Europe! The exterior finish is far better than the interior and that's no way to compete with the Champions League of Motoring!

All the comments miss the point: Suzuki ISN?T trying to compete against Audi or Mercedes with the Kizashi. (And given that Suzuki is looking more and more like another VW brand - it uses the same VW standard DSG as Audi, that?s silly). What they?re doing is presenting the qualities of their car (which seems pretty great for the price and segment) is the most exciting way possible. Comparing it favorably against luxury brand cars isn?t about displacing sales of those brands, it?s about re-enforcing that the Kizashi is a great deal for the market segment it plays in, i.e. against Toyotas, Peugots, Fords, and VWs. I highly doubt Suzuki is going to establish a luxury division, they don?t reall havy the resources like Toyota to divert from their ?lower status? main line.... They look prime for further integration with VW BECAUSE they occupy a ?lower status? quality for price/ good value niche.

I do understand the idea sushimutant but I think the campaign doesnt work out because every one knows u cannot compare a suzuki with the big 3 no matter what maybe they can convince americans but I do not think that would work in Europe I agree with you they are aimed at VW but why didnt they compare it with vehicles in its class that would have reenforced its qualities u cannot compare apples and bananas i just doesnt work
