Tesla has 3000 deposits for the Model S
Interest remains as delays mount
According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Tesla has logged 3,000 pre-orders for the Model S.
While the figures are nothing to sneeze at, it is interesting that Tesla has managed to get people to fork over a $5,000 deposit for a car that has been plagued by delays.
As we have previously reported, the Model S is motivated by an electric motor which is powered by a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds, hit a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h), and travel up to 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge.
The Model S was slated to be launched in third quarter of 2011, but that date has now been pushed back to 2012.

Maserati looks and no gasoline, I'll take it! This is why I like Tesla, they're making EVs that look like real cars, rather then micro cars that seem to be designed to look like an egg.

Maserati GT, Aston Martin Rapide and Jaguar XF design cues aside, this is the most stunning 'electric car' Tesla has made yet! And it's a sedan (AND AMERICAN)! Model S sounds lame, but if the production and sales figures accelerate, who's gonna give a monkeys about the model name when this thing looks this good?! Come on, get a move on!!
