Nico Rosberg tests the new 2012 Mercedes SLK with its chief engineer [video]

Mercedes-Benz F1 driver takes the SLK for a spin along the French Riviera

Here's a video of Mercedes-Benz F1 driver Nico Rosberg taking the new 2012 Mercedes SLK for a test drive.

The video was filmed by the SLK's lead development engineer, Michael Scheer, who is along for the ride and whom Rosberg predictably praises for doing such a great job on the car.

But we do get enough of a look, both inside and out, of the new SLK as the pair take a slow drive along the Côte d'Azur in the south of France.  However, we have seen a couple fo weeks ago the 2012 SLK fully revealed in the leaked French commerical.

It's funny to see Rosberg refer to the stop/start system as a "great idea", as if the technology had just been invented by Scheer himself.

The more innovative feature to remark upon is the "magic sky control" which adjusts the tint on the sunroof for more sunlight or darkness. This is a feature of the new SLK which Mercedes-Benz hinted at in an earlier tease.

When will Mercedes-Benz reveal new SLK? As for me, I dislike when manufacturers make commercial on car prototypes testing

"Majic sky control" should be applied to windscreen and windows. People often park their cars where there are no garages and during the afternoon the car's interior becomes hot. This could be the saving feature.

That's a pretty cool idea you got there - It gets really really hot parking here in the tropics.

it sticks to the road he says, as he drives forward slowly- i'd be pretty unimpressed if it didnt. And it just seems a bit creepy when he asks 'whats with the camera?' i dunno why

I like this little controlled PR videos. In the olden days we used to just get some news feed and then a car commercial on tv along with some press photos. Now there are a million ways companies can release information. The more information the better in my opinion.

okay, maybe Iam jumping the gun here folks, but it seems to me that if they can put the technology in the pano roof and a distronic system , they sure as hell can have a Keyless go option,if they dont that saddens me.As far as the pano roof goes cool but I didnt see the glass black out but the could just be me. I , like everyone else who either owns or plans to by an SLK wait and see before judgement. Hopefully it wont be to many more months before its released for sale to the public.

Nice...looks better than the previous one actually. But the headlights looks a little too swept back, I'd personally prefer CL type of headlights. But then the SLK would end up looking better than the SL and the CL. Now you wouldn't want that now would you? So it is quite obvious why manufacturers would always give the best looks to the Higher End cars and give rather bland looks to the Lower End of the segment, to encourage the sales of the upper Segment vehicles.

I have to take offense to your comment about the SLK being a lower end car. I own a SL63 AMG and a 99 SLK sport. I dont know if you have ever priced an SLK AMG but it goes loaded about 75k. I know money is relative but I dont know many people who would consider spending 75k as a lower end purchase, especially for a two seater, that has the room for 2 people and a oppinion. Lower end of the segment I think not!!!!!

Does a F1 driver's scripted comments on video really give an entry level car more weight? They unveiled the SLK before with Mika years ago...
