Alfa Romeo Giulia new details emerge
Alfa Romeo Giulietta - 1600 - 26.02.2010

Replaces the 159

New details are starting to emerge about Alfa Romeo's 2012 Giulia.

While rumors suggested the car would be rear-wheel drive, AutoExpress is reporting the Giulia will ride on a stretched version of the Giulietta's front-wheel drive platform. To make up for this handling faux pas, the Giulia will come with an Active Roll Control system that automatically stiffens the springs and dampers when the vehicle enters a corner.

Under the hood, a variety of engines will be offered. Petrol choices are expected to include a turbocharged 1.4-liter with 118 hp (88 kW / 120 PS) and 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) as well as a 1.8-liter with 200hp (149 kW / 203 PS). On the diesel side, there will be several JTDm options with outputs ranging from 104 hp (78 kW / 105 PS) to 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS).

More interestingly, the Quadrifoglio Verde is rumored to adopt a modified version of Chrysler's Pentastar V6. It will reportedly displace 3.3-liters (instead of 3.6-liters) and feature MultiAir technology that will enable it to produce 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS).

The Giulia is scheduled to go into production in late 2012, so expect to learn more in the coming months.

I really hope Alfa goes back to building RWD cars.A car manufacturer that makes FWD cars is one to be mocked & ridiculed.

well then, that's essentially every car company out there...good luck in buying your next car from a respected manufacturer...if you got the money that is.

You are that kind of people who thinks that only RWD is the best. I'm not going to tell anything about it but there some FWD cars out there that outperforme some "very good well reputated" brands with RWD. Nor RWD is better than FWD nor FWD is better than RWD...not even AWD. It has to much variables to be discussed. But not here.

A Chrysler-powered long wheel base Giulietta complete with FWD. Yea, sounds exciting.

SZQ - there are numerous manufacturers that produce RWD cars. Having said that, as said by DogFalcon, depends on what you need the car to do. For normal driving conditions, RWD is more fun and AWD is probably better out and out grip. However, living in the UK and driving through the winter, did anyone notice how many BMWs and Mercedes Benzes were left stranded in the snow while the cheap and cheerful Vauxhall Corsas and VW polos motored onwards?? And this coming from a BMW driver as well. Our RWD cars really suffered in thesed conditions.....

I still cannot believe that Nissan's Leaf (all-electric fgs!) won the 2011 ECOTY Award when Alfa Romeo (who have lost count of their ECOTYs) should have won with this number! It's a minor miracle that Alfas bloodline aren't 'sullied' yet with crybaby Chrysler in the mix! Cloverleaf or not, it's high time Alfas adopt an AWD option!! This Active Roll Control (ARC) system could be similar to Ford's RevoKnuckle system on the Focus Cosworth's FWD setup. Hope it works!
