New Vauxhall VXR8 features GM's 6.2 liter LS3 unit with an output of 431 PS (317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque

Vauxhall has introduced the new VXR8 performance sedan for the UK market.

The VXR8 is a high-powered rear-wheel drive sedan based on the facelifted Holden HSV E3 GTS model recently launched in Australia.

The VXR8 features, by far, the largest engine fitted into a Vauxhall model. That would be the 6.2 liter LS3 unit with an output of 431 PS (425 bhp / 317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. The VXR8 couples that power plant to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox transferring power to the mechanical limited-slip differential of the rear axle.

The 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint time comes in at 4.9 seconds and speed tops out at 155 mph (250 km/h).

The suspension set-up includes MacPherson struts and progressive rate coil springs for the front with a multi-link independent support at the back. The new VXR8 also comes with Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) for the first time.

The tech goodies continue with the addition of a launch control function with comes with the stability control program providing for measured acceleration times within 0.1 seconds of each other.

For the body kit is a ‘Shockwave' grille, LED daytimers at the front, wing-vents, a rear spoiler, LED tail lights and a dual exhaust.

On the inside is a full leather finish, HSV sport seats and an EDI system - an on-board computer that streams performance data to the 5-inch monitor.

The VXR8 is available only through 6 selected Vaxhaul dealers in the UK.

Prices start at £49,500 (inc. 20 percent VAT).

awesome car, but the it looks like it was designed by someone on lsd who in his or her trip thought it would be a good idea to make a car to look like an angry wasp ridding around on wheels made of flowers, and with a back end that looks as though its sad and melting away.

Vauxhall UK has owned those plates and have displayed them on all the Aussie-Sourced HSV Sedans since the first VE-based VXR8

Great car. To all the guys saying they "want one of these", you can get one. It will be used, and badged as a Pontiac, but we had the G8-GXP with nearly all the same specs, and far less gaudy body-work.

You guys probably wouldn't believe it if I tell you, so here's a link to prove it. This platform in the Middle East is actually marketed as a bow tie named Lumina and yes, it's down spec'ed and bland. It does come in an LTZ and a (not so bland) SS trim though, even a limited CSV trim! (like Holden's HSV but the chevy version) 2008 Chevrolet Lumina: http://www.q8car.com/kuwait/english/cars/chevrolet/lumina/2008/2068/itemdetails.aspx 2008 Chevrolet Lumina SS: http://www.q8car.com/kuwait/english/cars/chevrolet/lumina_ss/2008/31758/itemdetails.aspx

I really used to like the Holden based Vauxhalls aka Monaro & VXR-8. The Monaro looked a bit bland, but overall, was nice to look at. The VXR-8 looked a bit "special"... The facelift has made it worse: Look at this rims, led-lights, grille, rear bumper - oh no! The interior is still not quite up to european standards. with the gauges on top of the center-consol, which remind me of old Mitsubishi Pajeros with their compass etc. The electric windows switches are still in the center-consol.... It's really a shame because the rest of the car is tempting. Shure it will be a good value & fun too, but why not just with the looks of say, a G8 GXP... ??

Agreed. The interior and switch gear is very low end but then again the Commodore is an "everyman's" car and the bulk of them spend their lives in company fleets. I don't understand how they can't make a little bit more of an effort with them though.

HSV really lost their way with the E series II cars. The styling is disgusting. They seem to have gone for a W427 look for the E2 cars. I guess they're just going through a wild and over the top styling phase like they did with the original VL HSV's inspired by the Walkinshaw (VL SS Group A) Hopefully they'll see sense soon.
